    Smiley i woosh i was a feature...

just curious..i have always wanted to be a feature, but where does one begin? i have always heard you have to be in magazines or porn movies to feature, and you need an agent, licenses, fancy bookings etc...what all goes into it? If there are some features on here, how did you start? What do you think about it? What are the perks/drawbacks? Do you need an agent BEFORE you do magazines? How do you choreograph your shows? Does the agent do all the work booking your shows, or do you get to pick where you want to go?
    What about advertising?
    just wondering..

    Featuring = No Life.

You need to do contests(ie Miss Nude Canada or Nudes A Poppin or anything of those sort).

    You need costumes.

    Props.

Be willing to give up your social life as your entire life is devoted to the club.

If your not on a booking your doing promotions or magazine shoots or porn or whatever else to keep your name strong.

I invested a shit load of money into costumes, props, shows and contests and promo. Im constantly having to get posters printed, keychains and magnets made and teeshirts and doing new photo shoots to keep my promo recent and new and fresh.

I am a title and magazine feature. As in I do a lot of Miss Nude contests to build up my titles and I have a lot of magazine and tv credits behind my name.

Honestly im in the process of quiting featuring to be a showgirl(Canada has girls who just get paid to do stage shows, no featuring involved so its less stress). I enjoyed featuring but it was just one big over head expense and a constant battle to get bookings and dealing with too much BS from my agent who booked me as a feature in Eastern Canada.

I still do feature bookings in Western Canada but they're different.

Anyway the point is... its one big expense with very little pay off.

If you want to do it for the experience and to say you've done it. Then great. Don't think its a way to make tons of money because I guarantee you that girls who work as regular house girls make a hell of a lot more.

There are a few other features on here from the US who can tell you more about what is in the US(im assuming your American?). If your Canadian though I can tell you more about what you need and what not.

many Americans are probably not going to want to hear this, but from an economic standpoint trying to make a living by featuring in US clubs these days is a no-fly zone. It's true that, back in the 90's, clubs would pay features VERY well and extra customers would come to the clubs to SEE the feature perform.

However, these days, the going rate for US club feature fees, when compared to the travel and accomodation expenses involved, really doesn't provide for a higher net earnings potential than a top level 'house dancer'. Also, these days, many customers aren't interested in seeing a feature perform - they are interested in HAVING the feature perform ON THEM, in the privacy of a nearby hotel room, between the feature's scheduled club performances. As a result, a lot of today's features essentially utilize the club booking as a tax write-off, and actually generate the majority of their earnings potential from OTC private sessions ...

i saw a couple other threads similar to my question but it wouldn't let me post on them for some reason....computers are the devil! but on one Pamela was talking about the different modeling things she's done to boost her "marketability".. where do you find opportunities or info about stuff like ads for porny-things and phone sex, talk show type things, contests and stuff? is that what agents do? the most i have seen is Hustler's "Beaver Hunt" amateur contest..and the old-fashioned-mailing-one's-photos-in-to-individual-magazine-publishers-and-pray-method! contests...hmmm....

Listen to Cally and Melonie. Featuring is fun, but it's a lonely life. *Really* lonely. I live in hotels week after week, spend tons of money on things that you would never think have to do with this job (candles, plastic sheeting, poster paint and 6 gallons of baby lotion=WTF?), and you have no social life at all. I

I don't do the escort thing, and it makes it hard for me on the road sometimes. Guys automatically assume I do, and then they get all butt hurt when I laugh at them and tell them no. I actually had some dude ask me why I didn't have a Bodymiracle page a couple weeks ago. I rolled my eyes and left, but after the 500th time it gets old.

ETA: There are agents that just do feature stuff, then there are agents that do magazines and other things for girls too. I'm a 'porn feature' so I have agents that book things for me. I have 1 agent for all my porn/magazines/appearances at conventions and then 6 that do my feature bookings.

let me try to put this in some sort of perspective by asking Ginger, who does not do the escort work that most features do, a question. Assuming that you gave up road work featuring (not video and magazine work just live performances) and instead decided to work full time at the best club in your home town, with the reduced expenses and reduced 'time' requirements how do you think that your net income would compare ?

I'm not a feature.....but, I have a few friends that are, one of whom I travel with sometimes on her bookings. I'll house dance and roadie for her. From my POV being on the road is hard, and I don't do it as much as she does. Being away from home and friends and family. Living out of a suitcase and living off microwave food. Having to find a place to work out, tan, get your nails done in a city you've never been to before, some may think it's trivial but you don't realise how you take that stuff for granted.

I admire features who are out on the road all the time (hat's off to you Ginger Lee!). It takes alot to do that and out on a good show. Good features are rare these days IMO.

If you're interested in just the travel aspect of it you can travel and not feature.

I've been traveling for a while and am looking for magazines to submit pics to so I can use the pic appearances to promote myself. Any suggestions?

Don't you just love shopping for work? Seriously the dollar store and craft stores are my fav places to get props n what not and I LOVE the looks I get when I get to the check out. Heh hardware stores are even more fun when your building props

Yea living on the road sucks. I have been on the road now for a year n a half or so... with the odd week here and there off... last time I was home was the beginning of October and it was only for a half week... before that was May for a week... before that Feb...

Its lonely... you get sick of fast food... you get excited if one of your bookings gives you a room with a kitchen... truly it is a sad day when you get excited that you can eat home cooked food.

thank you so much for the advice ladies! i never doubted it was tough, but there is so much to it that no one ever thinks about! i never would have thought about the tanning and nails in a strange city, and props... i would still like to do it someday tho... some questions for girls who travel only: i've never traveled for dancing and i was wondering, how long do you usually stay at a club in a new state or city? Is management ok with "traveling" or should you keep it to yourself when you sign in at a new club? how do you decide or know what clubs to go to? is it usually worth it monetarily? how often do you travel? are all these questions relative based on the dancer and where they like to go? just wondering...

A lot of clubs take traveling girls. There are clubs in the upper mid west that prefer to book a traveling dancer.

I recommend using an agency the first time you try traveling. They can set you up with a few bookings to help you get used to it.

Some girls live on the road and thats all they do, others will spend two weeks away and two weeks home. It depends on you and how you feel.

That all depends on where you're going. Once you figure out where you're going and where you want to work, call the club.
For example: The Northern on Fargo ND , you need to book yourself in advance.
If you're going someplace that is a heavy tourist town, like Myrtle Beach SC in golf season, you can pretty much just show up and audition/work.

Check club chat and stripclublist.com for info on clubs. How often you travel is up to you. I know girls who stay in Myrtle for a month or more during season. As for $$ potential, figure out where you're going and do a little research (conventions, tourist times etc)

I wanted to feature SO bad when I first started dancing years ago. When I learned I'd have no life besides la-la-nudie-land, I could NOT bring myself to fucking do that. I love to visit, but I just can't live it. I'm quite content with my life to say the least. But whatever floats your boat.
I give major kudos to those who can commit to this industry like that though! It's a harsh lifestyle. But traveling on the road I'd love to do for little spurts. Soon enough...

You know I have to say this...

Melonie I really respect you and what you've done for yourself and you have great advice.

But im really getting annoyed with you constantly stating features are escorting on the side.

Yes there are features who do, just like there are house girls who do. I don't deny that. But not every feature is, just like not every house girl is.

Features can and do make money without escorting. Maybe not as much as house dancers do, but we still make enough.

I just really hate that you constantly throw in features are escorting. A majority DON'T escort on the side.

I don't know about other girls but when im between shows im selling merch, signing posters and doing polariods. Then im taking the 10 minutes I have left to get myself ready for my next show.

Maybe it is different in the US... I don't know...

The other day I bought 75 condoms, a 5 litre bottle of lotion, 150 lollypops, five bottles of shaving cream and a travel suitcase. When the lady looked at me reeeeeeal funny I just said matter-of-factly, "WHAT?! I may be a dirty slut - but I'm a SAFE dirty slut."

Really, it's what they wanna hear anyway.

I'm not a feature but I am a PP showgirl, so it's along the same lines. I do end up travelling a fair bit, but I like it. I am more of a recluse anyway.

But it's not all glamour like it looks from below the shiny stage.

Yes, it is. I've worked with tons of different features over the years... never met one who didn't escort on the side.

I know several features (in the US) and none of them escort on the side.

I know not all of them do. Just haven't met one yet, and with how many I HAVE met... Well, it's just very sad I haven't met a clean one yet! LoL. But whatever they do is their business, I don't judge them for it.
