    Default Pregnancy and Navel piercings....

This is a spin off from another thread, but it made me wonder....Who here is preggers or been preggers with a navel piercing? When did you have to remove it and did it close in before you could continue wearing it? Or were you able to continue wearing your navel ring? I love mine, and don't want it to close in.

I am about 5.5 months now and I still have it in. The dr told me I can leave it in until it starts to hurt. I have had my in for over 6 years now and I have had it out last year for about a month and it never closed up.

you can go to the piercing place and tell them you need a spacer. explain to them you are pregnant and they can help you.

Oh dear. I learned the hard way about taking it out as soon as you think it might be getting a bit tight. I didn't and now I have a huge scarred welt. I'd post pictures but I don't want to scare everyone.

I think if you've had it long enough beforehand, it might not close up if you take it out for a few months of pregnancy.

Pretty much if your body decides it's gotta go, it'll go. I hope you're one of the lucky ones who can keep it in right until the end but I sure wasn't. My body just decided a month ago to reject it and I foolishly tried to keep it in. Don't make the mistake I did because I have a nasty scar now that'll probably stay gross forever.

Changing to a flexible material (teflon or ptfe I think) could be useful for keeping it in during pregnancy.

I took mine out around 7 months. It just wasn't comfy for me. I didn't put anything in the hole, though and after I had my daughter, just put the ring back in, no problem. I did have my navel pierced for 8 years before that, though.

I have a friend who took her ring out and tied in a piece of fishing line. Worked for her, though I would think about getting a spacer or whatever from the piercing shop.

Mine stayed in for my entire pregnancy. The doc said it would cause me pain and discomfort when I got bigger, but I experienced neither. I only removed it at the request of the delivery room staff and it went back in shortly after delivery. My navel has been pierced for 9 years and during my pregnancy, I just had a basic stainless steel ring w/ball in it.

I had 4 navel piercings pre-pregnancy and kept all of them in during. I did use pfte/ptfe (I can't remember which is correct and am too lazy to check) bars for awhile, and they seemed to work well since they bend while your body expands. If you are worried about it though and want to take it out, I'd say do it and then just put the jewelry through like once/twice a day to keep it open.
