Since I moved out of Cali, things have been exponentially better. I couldn't take the "brothels with stages" run by extortion artists that pass as strip clubs in L.A. anymore. I was tired of pushing away hands constantly, only to have a bouncer let them stay in the club because they were buying drinks. I was tired of 90% of the guys being cheap to the point where they thought they could get a blow job for $20. In some places, I guess they could. Girls were undercutting each other, high on meth, selling anything they could just to get by. It's desperate, and being a clean dancer, I couldn't keep up. It was either a matter of joining them or moving back home. So I moved.
I almost decided it was time to get a "straight" job, which I am thinking I still might do just in case my luck runs out. I had tried auditioning at one club but the manager had a case of Doucheitis and told me they weren't hiring. Okay, dude. Whatever. All strip clubs are always hiring, especially larger clubs like that one.
I went to the next club, worked one shift. It was like being in LA again. Dirty girls, guys who tried to lick/grope me and management OPENLY pimping the girls. Not at all a place I want to be caught dead in.
But I went to the last club in town (there are 3) and auditioned yesterday. Wouldn't you know it was one of the best nights I've ever had stripping?! It was decent money-wise but even better was the fact that I maintained my dignity and integrity and didn't go home broke. The money was a reasonable number compared to what I'm used to, but it wasn't outrageous either. I guess it can only get better.
Guys didn't grope me, they didn't even ask for my phone number. Management claimed the contact rules were somewhat strict and actually did enforce these rules during a champagne room I did, where the guy's shirt slid up a little. I mean, it was innocent but they told him he had to remain clothed. It wasn't sterile but there weren't extras. Bingo.
The stage/decor/DR wasn't falling apart. There weren't signs stating "please don't pee in the trash can". It seems they actually hired women who wouldn't consider that an option.
Girls weren't doing drugs or smoking cigarettes (a big thing for me) in the DR.
There are financial incentive programs for showing up on time!
I even met a Stripperweb DJ who was really cool with me and had a huge selection of music and actually pushed the VIP for me! Amazing!
Does this mean that the idea of a functional strip club is not actually dead? I think as long as places like this exist, I'll keep dancing. I feel like I got my groove back, as well as my sanity.
There is hope, I think. We have to start giving our stage fees to places like this, and stop supporting pimps. I know a lot of the corruption is due to regional circumstances, but I would love to see more places like this thrive. I think it's everyone's responsibility to be selective about who they give their money to, not just dancers. Maybe not everyone thinks about ethics in regards to SCs but hey, I'm feeling optimistic.
