Generics have to meet the same standards as the brand-name drugs. They're fine.
Okay awesome! I guess I'm paranoid. My mom while growing up refused to ever get generic and would throw a fit if a pharmacist gave her generic - I don't exactly know why she didn't want generic. But I guess that has made me worried, especially with birth control I just want the best protection possible.

I have been on ortho-tri-cycline for 8 years now. Last year I switched to the generic, and had problems with the pills crumbling as I tried to get them out as well as spotting throughout the month for the few months that I tried it. My body did not like the generic. My doctor said theat the hormone levels may be a bit off.
Aggghhhh!!! Getting birth control down is really complicated!
So I went to get my birth control filled (the new one - Loestrin 24 FE) but the pharmacist said a generic didn't exist, even though my insurance told me there was...well this new one is $200 for 3 months which is more expensive than my current one. So I'm wanting to call my doctor again and ask him for a different perscription. I'm worried getting the right thing might be difficult or not even possible considering that he seems to be perscribing newer meds and maybe what I want in a birth control pill isn't totally obtainable.
I've got to finish up my graduate application tonight so I don't have time to investigate all the birth controls out there so I figured I would just pick every one's brain here - since most of you are more knowledgable about this stuff than I am anyway!
So here's what I'm looking for:
--my main concern is PMS. WHen I was on Trilevlin 28 I got horribly emotional. My periods weren't bad but I was damn near homicidal and super touchy the week before. Now on Lybrel I get none of that....it's great....only thing is that I don't get a period either - which is making me paranoid! haha!
--my secondary concern is price...maybe I was just spoiled with my last insurance but I think that $50 or more a month is kind of pricey. Is it realistic to want something that addresses PMS and is still afforable (or at least has a generic)? Maybe it's not...maybe I just need to deal with the price increase....IDK![]()
---aside from that I don't want to gain weight but I guess that is highly individualized so any opinions on this are appreciated.
So does anyone have a recommendation on what BC I sould ask my doctor for next?

you guys pay???!
Thats nuts! BC is free in UK as they feel it will keep unwanted pregnancies at bay which in turn cost economy more. Doesnt work mind, and we still have little trollops getting knocled up for benefits!

as far as price goes that depends on your insurance more than the pill itself.

trouble, i take ovcon 35. ive been on it for 4 years, and they just recently switched me to generic for insurance. at first i was wacky, i had bad cramps and a 2 week period, but now i'm fine. it helps a lot with my cramps, but i still get moody from pms. i think i pay $25 for 3 months for the generic brand, with insurance. its low hormone, im pretty sure, because when i tried to switch to seasonel a few years ago i got sick.
i hate the pill and wonder if i have fucked my system up forever. But then not about to try and get pregnant to find out!
