    Default help me (foundation)

you should all know by this point that i am make-up handicapped. i mean, i can apply the stuff just fine, but when it comes to knowing about products and what-does-what ....... i'm pretty clueless.

    here's my current issue:

i was recently in connecticut visiting family for 9 days. during this time i decided not to wear any foundation at all. i found out (i hope this doesn't sound conceited) that i have really nice skin, starting at around the 4th "foundation free" day.
i suspect that either the foundation is clogging my pores, or it's the wear and tear of removing it every night. i have pretty sensitive skin after all.

anyway, although my skin looks really nice without foundation, it still needs a little "something" for work. so i'm considering using lighter products. also, lighter products show my freckles, and that might be nice for a change. people seem to like them.

    that being said...
    question #1:

has anyone used stila's illuminating tinted moisturizer? do you think this would work as a foundation alternative? with a light powder over top? is it too oily for every day use? any other products of this type you would recommend?

    question #2:

i have never used a foundation primer before. would this mean i would have to use less foundation? or is the primer itself heavy on the skin, thusly making my objective pointless? i know smashbox makes a "light" primer. could i use this with a tinted moisturizer or (again) is that an oxymoron? i also remember hearing someone rave about a primer (i think) called "that girl" or "it girl" or...something. what's that all about?

    so yeah.
    clueless.

    HELP!

What about skipping foundation and using a good concealer where you need it with a little setting powder?

For primers, I like Laura Mercier's, it's light and absorbs quickly... some of the gel like ones like Smashbox are a slick silicone base that doesn't seem to jive with combo to oily skins and have a heavier texture.

I'm pretty makeup handicapped too, so I don't really know about primer and tinted foundation and all that.

But, I have found that for really sensitive skin like mine, a mineral powder foundation brushed on lightly works really well, instead of a heavy liquid one.

my girl friend uses stila's tinted moisturizer and loves it. It gives her an even complextion with light coverage and looks totally natural. I'd suggest giving it a try. if I had good skin I certainly would! LOL! Maybe go to sephora and have them put it on you - wear it for the day and see how it works for you.

as for primers....they baffle me! i don't know anything about them and can't seem to figure them out! LOL!

You have very radiant skin (from pics I'm saying this) and I'd invest in some Bare Minerals-type powder (non-matte) to make it glow in the club.

(For comparison, I have combo skin with big pores, so I use matte mineral powder to make everything look even and flawless.)

I second the bare minerals type powder. I have been using it for a couple of years and it is great--so natural looking, and has never caused breakouts for me. I also suggest that you read the Oil Cleansing Method thread--I think you will find that cleaning with oil is less harsh on your skin.

Revlon Skinlights make a great light, tinted moisturiser and powder that looks great on already clear skin.

I find it illuminates the skin and looks great under natural sunlight, so I'm guessing it would probably also look great under the lights of the club.

I found Armani's foundation to be super light, smooth, covering and never once has it caused me to break out and I'm just like you - I had TERRIBLE skin until I started using better foundations! Once I stopped using junk, I found out I actually had really lovely skin.

It shits me too, 'cause you break out and need to cover it up with the stuff..that makes you break out!

One of these days I'll share my meth-in-cosmetics conspiracy theory for you based on my shitty makeup.
