    What about my body...

Hey ladies. I must say again that this board is extremely helpful. I was just thinking about something and now it really makes me paranoid...I'm thinking about stripping and am feeling pretty confident about doing it. The problem is, I got into a car accident this past December, and as a result, I was bruised and scratched up, leaving me with more than a few scars on my arms, back, and legs. Would that be a problem for me? I'm pretty sure that a guy doesn't want to look at a girl who is scarred...I've been using things like Merderma and cocoa butter but it's taking forever, and I plan on going for an audition later this week. Should I just wait or use body makeup to cover the scars up? I know that body image is important when it comes to being in the spotlight so I'm really freaking out about this. I know this is somewhat of an odd question, but you ladies are so helpful and brillant when it comes to answering things like this. I really don't know what to do...

If the scars are really bad and your self conscious about them use dermablend.

I have a big scar on my arm from an accident about 8 years ago where I had a skin graft done. No one really comments on it. Though I tend to forget about it so I don't draw attention to it.

So yea either cover them or if you want to play off it when people ask you can make up stories... you can work it either way.

The scars make for good conversation, and if they are kind of light won't really be noticed unless you bring them up. Some guys like little imperfections it seems. I have a scar from a car accident airbag burn on my arm- it isn't really bad, but I notice it. If I ever mention it, it seems like guys find they have almost a soft spot for it. I work the scar I hope that makes sense.

A lot depends on the club that you're going to. Many of the places I visit have pretty low light levels. On-stage spotlights tend to flash quickly or swivel away. I'm sure that some dancers I've enjoyed over the years may very well have wrinkles or scars that I've never noticed. And, as the ladies said before me, if someone does notice a scar and comment on it, use it as a conversation starter. Good luck!

Dermablend is great, but it can rub off while giving a dance so I wouldn't use it if the club you're interested in has contact dances. I have some scars on my lower legs from an accident years ago and they are very obvious. I hide them by wearing leg warmers, knee socks, or thigh highs. From your post, it doesn't sound likely that you could just cover them all up, but if there is a particuliar scar you are worried about, you could consider clothing options to hide it. As far as waiting, it takes a full year for scars to mature (although you can see dramatic improvement in just a few months) and longer for the color to fade.

I don't think the scars would be a problem. For long term removal vitamin e cream is really good and you can just keep putting it on a few times a day. I also like the advice to use them as a conversation topic.
    Good luck with auditioning

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

As a note of encouragement, I've seen so many dancers with C-section scars, other surgical scars, birth marks (I have a huge, dark one on my back), and other marks that I think it's almost normal. I think almost everyone on SW could tell you about a couple of girls at their club that have noticeable scars or imperfections. You don't have to be perfect. Not nearly.

Pardon my getting philosophical, but I see scars as monuments to past events. They evoke poignant memories sometimes and make for some wonderful conversations. I don't think they are something that we should work so hard to hide. Everyone has scars of some sort. Some people's are just more apparent. It's human. (Sorry, but I wrote a paper on this at one point.)

At any rate... go for it... enjoy dancing... pretty soon I'm sure it will become a non-issue once you start making the money and lovin' the party.

Don't sweat it at all! I too have seen dancers with ALL scars imaginable; car accidents, c-section scars, biopsies, botched boob job scars, etc, etc.
I did not read thoroughly enough to see if it has been mentioned but Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs can work MIRACLES for blending over practically any skin perfection. I have had a few biopsies that did not heal well and left scars, but whenever I applied this stuff to my whole body, my skin was FLAWLESS...think of it like a whole body foundation. It is like $12. a can, I believe.
Seriously, don't let worrying about scars deter you from dancing. Good luck

Out of curiousity does that stuff rub off? Where can you get it?

And I agree with the rest of your statement. I know one dancer (a real money maker) who has a scar from a tracheotomy after a car accident.

I would stick with the scar creams, they do take time to work and may not erase your scars completely. You can use some type of cover up at work such as Dermablend or Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs, and lightly set with a powder.
