Try on a bunch of sizes, the sizes vary depending on who makes the bra just like regular clothes.
I thought I was a 36C for something like 4 years after my BA. That's because I got sized at Victoria's Secret.
I was frustrated one day and got measured at Nordstroms, and I'm a 32DD! And what a difference it makes to be in the right bra size. Go to a store where the sales people are total professionals, not just sales clerks trying to make their quota. That might mean going to a high-end store. Just let them help you figure things out, you don't have to buy a bra there. (Of course I was so excited to see what my breasts should look like in a bra, I bought four new ones on the spot.) They know which brands run true to size so they'll even know which brands you should try on first and which ones don't run true to size. For example, I learned that in Elle MacPherson bras, I'm a 32D.
Nothing wrong with getting a little help from a true professional.

General rule of thumb? Don't trust Victoria's Secret sizing.

i'm going to second (third?) the VS sizing complaint. they told me that i can wear a 36DD if i am a 34F. uh... no i can't! first i'm a 34 not a 36 so it kept sliding down my torso creatinga saggy boob look ( oooo baby!! soooo hot! *sarcasm*) secondly, the cup was ALL WRONG!
i tried it on and then laughed at the sales clerk, told her she was an idiot, and left.
\
if it was pants and i said, "i need a 32in waist with a 34 inch inseam" what sales clerk in their right mind would give me a 34 inch waist with a 28 inch inseam? it is just not going to fit correctly.
try fredericks, their bras tend to be cheaper (where VS is $48, fredericks is $30 and sometimes less if you catch a good sale!), and a LOT sexier than VS. and they have sizes to accomodate us big tittied babes.

Even though a VS SA will tell you what your 'correct' bra size is after measurements are complete (one who knows what she is doing, anyway) all this size really is is a guideline to go by. Ultimately, it is up to you to choose what bra looks the best, fits/feels most comfortable on you, and flatters your breasts and figure... no matter who is doing the measuring.

I didn't think I was a DD either, but it depends. If you're tiny, it's possible. Since I'm a 32 (back width), that means my cup size jumped up to a 32DD. I had been wearing 36C's and the bras felt comfortable. At first the 32 felt uncomfortable because it was much tighter. But wow, did my boobs look different under my clothes. They perked wayyy up. Now I realize that the 36C's gave no support.
Online I've tried and because there are lots of choices for my more unusual size. I've had good experiences with both of them.
