Use a clarifying shampoo and super moisturizing conditioner. The latter will knock out small, unstable color molocules from the cuticle and counteract the dryness clarifying shampoos can cause with over use. Doing this a couple of ties within the first 48 hours of a color service is the most effective.
ok, thanks.![]()
an anti dandruff shampoo like head & shoulders works wonders!
A Good Girl With Bad Intentions
that's what I've been using H&S.
pam, when I first went from blonde to brown, I dyed my hair light reddish brown, then a natural medium brown.
leave it in for very little time. I use nice and easy brand. they say to leave it in 25 minutes, but after 10 it'll get to dark. Bleached hair is very porus. I think you should use a light redish brown, then a brown color you like. The reddish/auburn will gove you the warmth you need.
Maybe Mia M will also give you advice, she's helped me a lot!

^^^Always happy to try and help... Lola Rose is pretty right on the money... when I do a tint back at the salon it is a loooong process requiring several applications of Demi permanent color. I HIGHLY recommend a Demi because unless you want to go lighter or have gray to cover, a permanent will only damage your hair and it tends to fade to a really muddy color. Also, even though it's not permanent, since your hair has been bleached so light, a demi will have near permanent results on you.
I must preface this by saying that this is typically a service I would recommend seeing an expierienced colorist for.
Basically, you want to fill in the missing pigments that has been bleached from your hair. Start with a medium-light toned (like a level 6-7) red-orange with a brown base. Apply and process like you would any color, you will end up with superhero-esque hair, but don't panic- you're not done. Dry yourself off then apply & process a medium (level 5) ash brown. If you layer with another warm brown, you'll end up with really brassy color...
The first time around with a tint back you'll see quite a bit of fading... Porous hair not only absorbs color quickly but it also releases it a lot faster. In a couple of weeks, depending on the color your hair has faded to (most likely a reddish brown) you'll want to apply another demi permanent color in either a neutral or ash brown.
So Mia i can't try this at home?
They sell semi-perms. otc. Will it be enough to cover the blonde, by say buying a red/dark brown colour?
If do-able i don't want to hit any salons around here any more....scared.
I read somewhere that using a dandruff shampoo should work. Just a thought.

Yes you can try it at home, but I'm a firm beleiver that any dramatic change should be done by an expierienced professional. But if you're scared of salons in your area and you're brave enough to give it a go, by all means go.
I made part of your question bold because my frazzled little brain is not processing info very well today... do you mean will coloring over your blonde in one step with a darker color work? Please elaborate.
Baking soda mixed with your shampoo helps too, but I'm not sure how gentle it is on your hair.
I 2nd Mias suggestion at going to a salon for coloring blond hair ...
I do hair and wouldn't color my blond hair myself - is that pathetic? lol
you do a red toned dye, then rinse it out, then a regular (ash) brown dye, then wash itr out.
you're taking the color through two seperate processings.
Hmm. Okay, my avatar is two hours old. I have begun letting my roots grow in under and on top of the head. I tried to show it but it's growing long again. But you see when the flash (i used my cam) does not hit my hair like my sig pic. it's a darker blonde in many areas. It's pulled up, if i let it down it's like white blonde.
My daughter says me going darker will age me...shit i don't need that.
But, doesn't the very light hair age one too?
I think it ages me being very light blonde. Dunno could be wrong.
well - darker hair tends to make imperfections stand out more than blond hair. My mom says going grey is natures way - lighter hair to make you look younger. Who knows.
Yea. But white reminds me of little old ladies...
I thought maybe a nice light brown, i don't know. It's tough. When i was a little girl i had strawberry blonde that slowly turned to a dirty brownish colour.
I see some before & after pix. of women who look better with the darker hair, and wonder if i would be one of them with the right shade of course.
Yea, the tone can make a huge difference in if the color will look good or not.... a light brown is still a light color and i think it would look nice.

pretty much what Lola said, you'll need at least two applications starting with a red/orange... You don't need to mix if you're using drug store color... most of them have a brown base.
I don't think darker hair will age you as long as you don't go too dark and keep it warmer. If you get nervous about how dark to go, just start off erring on the lighter side- you can always go darker and a Demi will not damage. If you have light eyes (especially green) darker hair will make them look bighter and more intense. You will have to adjust your makeup colors, blonde makeup doesn't work for brunettes.

Prell Shampoo. (orginal in the green bottle.) will lift most lighter haircolors and will lighten darker dyes a lot the first couple of times you use it. Even if it has been a month since you dyed it.
If you are light blonde put a demi-permanent light copper brown on. You want to add Red/Orange tones back to your hair before applying light natural brown. I'd go to Sally's and purchase a demi-permanent light copper brown. I think there are some demi's available for the public to purchase. The demi will have it's own developer. The store clerk should be able to match you with the proper developer for the demi. While you are there go ahead and get the permanent natural shade of light brown in the same line if all possible. You'll need the 10 volume developer that goes along with it. The clerk should be able to guide you in that direction as well. For the new growth (hair that is your natural color), DON'T apply the demi to it. Only apply the demi to the lightened hair. After applying the color your hair will probably be a orange/copper color. Don't freak out. Go ahead and dry it then apply the permanent light brown.
