In our contracts at the club where I work they require you to work a minimum of 2 shifts a week at six hours a shift minimum. I usually go in at LEAST 3-4 days a week. I go in around 6 or 7 pm and leave @ midnight-1am, as I have a child to care for and I need to get a decent night's sleep.
The past several shifts I have had problems with a power tripping manager. Any time I try and leave after my 6 hours are up, he tries to get me to stay by saying that I must check out with him first before leaving, reason being that if all the night girls leave @ 12 or 1am, then there will be no girls left at closing (which is @ 1:45 am). Basically he is saying that if I don't check out before I leave, my contract could be terminated, b/c there might be a possibility that he'd need me to stay until closing and if I don't stay, then they are screwed.
I told him that I cannot always stay until closing. If my kid stays at his dad's house I can, but...I have a kid to care for and I'm not staying out til 2-2:30 am only to wake up to be cranky zombie Mom the next day. He seemed to understand, but I was irked by the fact that he's trying to make me stay past a time that is inconvenient for me.
My job revolves around my life, not the other way around. Don't we like this job for the convenience factor? Can they force me to stay by threatening to tear up my contract, which I abide to otherwise?
