I never ever thought things were this bad...until I discovered .
This isn't an attack on all Christians, mind you. I just don't see how any of these people are Christ-like in any way.

in the interest of equal time ...

i am sure plenty of civilians would say the same about strippers.
'oh, this isn't an attack on strippers, mind you'-- followed by examples of drug addicted, thieving strippers who did bjs for 20 dollars.
i don't know that it's always useful to judge a group by its poorer examples. i could post a bunch of positive links about Christians who are living the Word. (someone in fact did post such a link here awhile back-- it was really wonderful to see that.) they are out there, and at least as easy to find as the stuff you posted.
it's as bad as one chooses to make it out to be, pretty much.
Did you even read the link, miabella?![]()
Uggh. I read the first sentence of the first quote and had to X out of that real quick.
These people are the bane of my existence, as I believe quite otherwise.
I can barely stand to even read their shit anymore. I just ignore it, or, if I'm in a particularly good mood, read it and laugh my ass off.
Ugh. Just ugh. It's so vicious and ignorant.
I heart this one...
Oh, and I admit it. I am personally intolerant of religion. But I don't make a fuss about it anymore, and especially not in professional or polite company.I am a bit troubled. I believe my son has a girlfriend, because she left a dirty magazine with men in it under his bed. My son is only 16 and I really don't think he's ready to date yet.
Ooooh, don't read this unless you want to get annoyed and amused:

Yes, that is a great company. I bought one of their large print version (old eyes... what can I say?).
The only thing I don't like about them is they sell foreign language versions of the KJB. I don't think that's right. We know the only true translation is the 1600's version in English.
It's too risky for anybody to translate that into other languages. Mistakes can creep in... and that can lead to heresy. True Christians should only read English.

Hahahahahaha! I love stupid quotes! I'm laughing so hard that I'm crying right now
Yeah, I guess the sun doesn't count? One of the most basic laws in the universe is the Second Law of Thermodynamics. This states that as time goes by, entropy in an environment will increase. Evolution argues differently against a law that is accepted EVERYWHERE BY EVERYONE. Evolution says that we started out simple, and over time became more complex. That just isn't possible: UNLESS there is a giant outside source of energy supplying the Earth with huge amounts of energy. If there were such a source, scientists would certainly know about it.![]()

Oooooo! Ooo! Ooo! I finally found a worthy siggy quote!
Everyone knows scientists insist on using complex terminology to make it harder for True Christians to refute their claims.
Deoxyribonucleic Acid, for example... sounds impressive, right? But have you ever seen what happens if you put something in acid? It dissolves! If we had all this acid in our cells, we'd all dissolve! So much for the Theory of Evolution, Check MATE!

And that's when I had to call it quits!Gravity: Doesn't exist.
these type of religious people really do bug me the most but I agree that there are wack jobs in every religion just as there are good people in every religion too.
Usually the good out weigh the bad though even though it's the wack jobs that get most of the attention.

I thought it was funny.
WOW scary!!!!
But clearly this is mistaken because anybody without a well developed belief in God is obviously not a full human person.
What could be more obvious than that ?
How many full human persons do you know without a well developed belief in God. Obviously none, because if they were full human person they would have a well developed belief in God.
Now some people might object to killing atheists for there (and obviously it is there and not thier as they are not whos but whats ) organs but think of all the full human persons that would benifit from the organs and the medical research that could be done on these non-persons.
How could anybody object, they are not human persons and if you think we should not kill them then that is just because of out dated ideas and because they must really just want people to suffer. For shame on you !
So what do people think ?
Is this real? Or is it like Landover Baptist?
As Sam Harris points out in "The End of Faith", it's not the extremists that scares me about humanity. At least it's obvious to the majority of the world they are ignorant if not even dangerous. It's the "moderates" who make apologies, and put the rest of the world in a position where it is politically incorrect to point out the ignorance of the extremists.
The problem is the moderates walk on the fence, picking and choosing what to believe. On the one hand secretly admiring the extremists, maybe even feeling it is a sin to speak against them, on the other knowing that extremism and ignorance just don't hold up against science or the beliefs of majority of the rest of the world.
So... the posted links are interesting. But even more interesting to me, I have to wonder, were there any moderates speaking up and against these stupid remarks? Or is it the usual case of let's make sure everyone says nothing! Keep quiet for fear of insulting the moderates. The moderates won't clean their own house, but they will demand that the rest of the world not insult them by pointing out the ignorance and extremism among them. Scary stuff.
As usual, a very profound observation from x. ^^
ATHIEST DAD: Hey!
ATHIEST MOM: Hi, honey! I'm pregnant again. I guess I'll just get another abortion, since "fetuses don't count as human life."
ATHIEST DAD: Okay, get as many abortions as you want!
ATHIEST MOM: Oh, and don't go in the bedroom.
ATHIEST DAD: Why not?
ATHIEST MOM: There are two gay men fucking eachother in there.
ATHIEST DAD: Why are they here?
ATHIEST MOM: I wanted to watch them do it for awhile. They just aren't finished yet.
ATHIEST DAD: Okay, that's fine with me!
Atheism rocks!
Feature costumes for sale!
I love how they managed to misspell "atheist" on every count. They turned it into a unit of measurement--I'm Athier than you! Nuh uh, I'm ATHIEST of all!
...yes, that's how my humor works sometimes.
And to x, my only qualm with expressing my revulsion for fundamental beliefs is that I get to the point where I'm showing how intolerant I am of intolerance, and I hate backing myself into a hypocritical corner like that. Doesn't accomplish anything. So I'll just call them all poopyheads and pray for intervention. Like reading a 1st grade science book.

That one hurt my brain for a little while. I don't get how denial of basic scientific, er, stuff makes you a better Christian. Like gravity. Or the earth being round.
Of course I was raised to believe that dinosaurs were a trick from satan, so... (no, I don't believe that now!)
Ugh... these forums make me want to both laugh and cry.... laugh because I find it hard to believe that people can be so stupid, and cry because there are so many of them. I guess I didn't realize that so many people not only thought that way, but had the computer access to spread that crap around the world.
Xdamage, I think you and I have different definitions of "moderate." I consider myself a moderate politically, meaning I lean slightly one way but am not so far gone I am "extreme" or would never vote for the other side. On the other hand, I do not condone extremists on either side, and I am not afraid to speak out against them or try to prevent others from doing so. I try to be open-minded and look at an issue from both sides, but not to the point where I listen to useless gibberish from the far right or left, either. Oh, and I assure you my house is quite clean, although I do need to do my laundry.![]()
I was referring to Sam Harris' book, "The End of Faith" and his argument about that the moderate religious are more dangerous then the extremists (both fundamental and ignorance).
He does not mean "ALL" moderates behave in the same way, or that is the definition of moderation. There are of course plenty of exceptions.
He does mean some if not a lot of modern day moderates pick and choose their beliefs (e.g., some accept evolution now, some acknowledge the world wasn't created in 6 earth days, etc.,) as it suits them, using varying logic as needed to make it work in their own minds. On the other end of the scale, you have the TRUE believers. They do not care what the scientific evidence is. They believe the stories in 2000+ year old books because they have FAITH, facts shmacts.
Harris' point is that moderates then find themselves in a position where they have a conflict of interest. On the one hand they have some reasons to defend the TRUE believers. On the other, they have some reasons to question stories written 2000 years ago. Often there is a premise at play that their holy book is the absolute perfect truth written by God, so it is questionable who has the truth. The FAITHFUL who don't give a damn what science reveals 2000 years later. The moderates want to re-interpret what is pretty damn clear to mean something else using whatever logic they can apply to make it feel like sense without violating the notion that everything in the holy book is absolute truth. It is a conflict of interest.
For those of us who do not have that conflict of interest, reasonably we should all be able to joke about things like Alexxa linked, but practically we often walk around on egg shells, worried to offend the moderates. We don't care if we offend the extremists![]()
