Inbreeding chihuahuas so you can sell more of them...nice. But it is a really neat story and they're really cute little ones

and a video!
and people wonder why I am so passionately against backyard breeding
But aren't show dogs inbred as well? So why aren't we outraged about that kind of inbreeding?
They arent usually. Inbreeding causes all kinds of problems that would disqualify a show dog. GOOD breeders deliberatley choose bloodlines as far apart as possible for just this reason.
And for the record...I'm against ANY inbreeding...I actually think that any breeding should be licensed, inspected and regulated.
That's not what I've come to understand but if it is I'm glad.
Here's a good article on the subject. And bulldogs for instance are one example of what we've done. We've cross and inbred dogs into very different animals than they were intended to be.
"The bulldog of several centuries ago was an agile, muscular dog of medium size, quite capable of participating in the bull-baiting and bear-baiting events of the time. Bulldogs were admired for their tenacity, gameness and their tolerance of pain - all good attributes for dogs battling foes many times their size."

A pro inbreeding article, including the show breeders
"It is important to remember that it is not dangerous to inbreed of course, especially not if the breeder's morals are high enough to prevent him from presenting the results of his experiments on the market When this stage of experiment is passed he can very proudly present to the world the result of his work."

"...if the breeder's morals are high enough to prevent him from presenting the results of his experiments on the market..." ? So it's ok to inbreed and then... discard the rejects? I don't understand, how do you prevent the results from reaching the market?![]()

aren't Dalmations known for having alot of inbreeding??
Yeah thats what that sounds like....what A-holes. There has been a lot of CROSS breeding to get many current recognized breeds...but still...no breeder worth their salt would inbreed. Sadly...breeders with morals are outnumbered by backyard breeders and puppy mills about 100 to 1
They say that Dalmations suffer a plethora of problems from being inbred for so long.
Well, I hope you're right and that it's not welcomed in the show world now, but I do know that it wasn't uncommon in the past.
Makes me so sad and angry!
A lot of breeds have issues from inbreeding. I cringe when I see a movie like 101 Dalmations come out because I KNOW people will trip over themselves to get one of the dogs in the movie..which means a lot of inbreeding and a lot of dogs in the shelter or worse when they realize the dog isnt right for them.
I dont know a lot about the show world...but I've only known one or two true caring breeders in my life who showed and they hated inbreeding...

Technically, all dogs that exist today originated as one breed, and people used selective breeding to develop different breeds.
In effect, all evolution takes place because of inbreeding. That's how the new trait is passed on. Problems arise when uneducated people breed animals without being sure the dogs are free of negative traits which would result in babies with health problems.
Thats horrible. But Id take one in a heartbeat.
Idiots.
Poor little babies, they're so cute. I'm so glad they didn't get put down.
I'm glad they saved the little guys ! They seem happy in thier little dog wheelie contraptions.
Feel the fear and do it anyway.
No, not at all. I'm merely describing how evolution in general takes place. Darwin's finches for example: a small population of finches on each galapagos island inbred which resulted in birds with different traits - small beaks, large beaks, etc.
The people who keep breeding their own sickly dogs in puppy mills are fucked up, especially since they're doing it to make a quick buck.
Ok, when you said
"Problems arise when uneducated people breed animals without being sure the dogs are free of negative traits which would result in babies with health problems."
I was wondering if you were saying it was ok for people to inbreed animals that appear healthy. Whew!
I agree with you Rooster!
