    Default It snowed here!

Amongst everyone freaking out last night and running out to buy bread and milk I stayed calm and said it ain't happening. So, this morning I woke up to a couple of inches of snow on the ground. It's so pretty. My grandmother says the snow cleanses the earth, she's so sweet.

I am in Charlotte and woke up at like 6:30 and there was snow everywhere but it was already melting. It had started raining instead I was like wow, I didn't go to bed until after 1 and I didn't even notice!! I also haven't watched the weather in a few days either so I had no idea, lol.

I'm in Atlanta, Ga, and it snowed here yesterday! It was amazing. I was just standing in it talking on the phone like an ass because I loved it and knew it wouldn't last forever. The roofs were covered. Ground was covered. So awesome. Dogs couldn't figure it out, though.

I know, lol. My dogs reluctantly followed me out in it when I called them then quickly scattered back to the porch step and gave me a look like, "I'm not going back out in that, you can freeze your ass off alone", lol.

It's actually kind of scary that it is snowing in all of these places that it isn't supposed to. First Baghdad, then Mexico City, now Atlanta.

Also where I am (Cleveland) had the warmest day in the last 100 years a couple of weeks ago. It was 63 degrees in the beginning of January. Very freaky if you ask me.

It IS scary, really scary. In the beginning of January here we were having record temperatures also. For about 3 days in a row, the first day was like 73, then the next 75 and then it got almost to 80!!!! Now there is snow outside

Also last week all the storms that came through the southeast and all the tornadoes. They said with that 1 storm system it brought more tornadoes than the whole month of January usually has nationwide.

It does snow in Atlanta, the weather there is similiar to here. Atlanta and Charlotte both typically get a couple of winter storms each year.

Wow, it snowed in Baghdad, has it ever done that before?

We had snow in Richmond this morning but it was raining by 9:45 am and ended up being cold and rainy all day. I'd rather have had the snow!

It's snowing tonight in NE PA. Getting him was an ordeal. A 15 minute drive turned into a 2 hour drive. The snow is a lot more enjoyable when one can stay home.

We got 3 more inches today. We are buried in snow. We have been since December 1st. I left Madison on December 1 and was awaiting my connecting flight in Minneapolis when the snow hit. I made it too Dallas (yippee). The only bad part was that my luggage made it to Hawaii. I was very jealous and demanded that the airline give me the frequent flyer miles accumulated by my luggage.

The first week in Dallas was 70 and sunny. I was the envy of everyone back home. I would call home and they would be complaining about how the snow would not stop. I felt bad for them and responded with empathy, "What are you complaining about? It is 70 and sunny."..anyway...since this is the "snow" thread I will bore you all with a fun snow story from the past.

It was 1987 (I believe, or close to it) and I was a college student (please avoid your curiousity to do the math). It had been a very nice and comfortable fall for us that year. I had a heated waterbed (how 80's of me), so on cool nights I would leave my window open a bit for the fresh air. I went to bed this way, but probably should have checked out the weather forecast first. I awoke in the morning, threw my comforter off, and about immediately froze to death right there.

I hopped up and tried to close my window, but it wouldn't budge (I had windows that pushed outward). I pulled and pulled, but it would not close, so I peaked out the blinds and all I saw was snow. We had over 18 inches fall overnight AND it was stills snowing. I had to throw some clothes on and run outside to clean the snow out of my window.

No way were we going to head down to Campus (it was closed anyway), so my roommate and I tried to figure out how to spend the day. Upon checking the fridge we realized that we did not have the proper provisions for an event such as this, so we got on the phone. Made phone call after phone call until we fond two places that were open. One was a K-Mart and the other was a liqour store.

We began our trek out into the blizzard. This iwaskind of surreal trip, becuase we are walking down main arteries in the middle of the morning and there is not a car in sight. we saw two snow plows that were stuck in snowbanks. These were not pickup trucks with plows on them. These were the city and county trucks and they weigh about the same as a tank.

A half mile down the road we stopped at an ATM and loaded up on a little cash. Then started another half mile trek to the K-Mart where we purchased plastic sleds. The last trek was to the liquor store where we picked up a case of cheap beer (after all, we were only college students at the time). We loaded the beer on our sleds and proceeded the one mile walk back home. Walking down the middle of a main artery pulling our sleds loaded with beer.

We spent most of the day playing Nintendo and drinking our beer (we had forgot to pickup food while we were out). Then as evening hit we made the trek out to the local sledding hill. We spent a couple hours out there with a bunch of little kids. It was real fun (and we were fairly inebriated). We spent a lot of time building snow jumps for the kids. We really had those little buggers flying through the air.

Anyway, it was a fun day and a good memory.

For anyone that actually made it to the end of this post, well, you win the prize. I will send you 5 pounds of snow vis Fedex...absolutely no charge...

I got an email from my mother-in-law yesterday, she's in Rockford Il. She said that they got 13.4 inches of snow, that the snowblower quit working and how everyone got stuck, it was just awful.

I replied with "Really? It was 80 degrees in Va yesterday."

(I really wish it would snow here, we haven't had a decent snow in about three years)

Once it snowed here in July. That was weird too. Right now we have huge trucks roaming the city all night, carting away our snow from downtown because there is literally no room to dump it. The snowbanks are so high you have to pull your car out and hope for the best!

I'm glad you guys are enjoying the pretty white stuff though. It does look cool sometimes. I remember this kid I knew in high school from Mexico City. The first snowfall he was so psyched. "It's so white! Everything's covered in white!"

Well, yesterday I arrived in Washington state (again)...and it is raining (again). Over the last couple weeks I have spent 10 days out here (I was home long enough for the big snow storm) and it has rained every day.

So, to any of the Washington locals out there...does it ever stop raining?

On another note regarding the big snow storm on Tuesday night/Wednesday...A couple semis couldn't get over a hill on the Interstate just outside of Madison. They slid back down the hill and blocked the road. The news said about a 1000 cars were stuck behind the trucks. They were stuck there for about 11 hours. All of the exit were unpassable. It was a real mess.

Here's a link to the story:
