I saw a documentary about his castle on the history channel... I was most shocked by the sheer number of people he tortured and murdered. His <ahem> "head count" is approximately forty THOUSAND.
The rumor is his enemies the Turks seered his eyes and buried him alive when they captured him, but when the returned the next day the body was gone. Aided by peasants he escaped into the Transylvanian Alps and lived for many years more. That is the legend of Count Dracula.
