Default My kittahs keep switching personalities

In the adoption place, I had to choose 2 kittens from the litter of 5. Jean-Paul crawled right into my lap as soon as I sat down and stayed there, all purr-y and kneading his paws. So he kind of picked me. Simone was his best buddy in the litter (he was the runt and he had been sick too) and also super gorgeous so I took the two of them home.

Once Jean-Paul's body weight got up a bit he got pretty feisty, and Simone turned into a complete daddy's girl, following me around and just generally trying to get all the love all the time no matter what I was doing. That's how I got that pic of her reading SW, actually.

For the past two weeks though, she's been a bit feisty and nippy when I go to pet her, but Jean-Paul's been an absolute little prince, he'll start purring just from seeing me pet his sister or walking nearby.

The next phase will probably start when I get them fixed (very soon).

Anyone else's kittens go through several personality iterations before they settled down and picked one permanently? Luckily all the personalities mine have had are pretty lovable.

I have 2 kittens probably similar ages with yours. They don't have a personallity swap as much as they sort of take it in turns to be cuddly. Betty is naturally very timid and Boo is much more tactile and friendly. Recently Boo is going up and down with his affections. Today hes loving the cuddles but its the first I've had from him all week. I notice too that if hes going through a non cuddley spell and Betty starts getting some attention he's over in a flash, I think it a jealousy thing. I'm pretty sure what your kittens are going through is normal. They're stil babies afterall and still trying to find their personallitys.

Yeah, I've seen that. After they are a year old they tend to settle in one, though.

The most remarkable transition I ever saw was this one really fiesty little kitty at 6 weeks, one of a litter of 5, he was a terror but adorable of course. We kept the litter and mommy on the sheltered porch, it was plenty warm in Texas in the summer. But they got fleas and fleas being vile, nasty vermin, they go for the weakest of the bunch. The two smallest kittens, including the really fiesty one. Well his little sister died, and we were heartbroken, and even though we were just out of college and broke we took him to the vet as he wasn't doing well.

The vet kept him two days, gave him a tranfusion, etc. Still the little guy almost didn't make it. When he recovered he was a healthy happy kitten, but not the fiesty terror of his infancy, and definitely tiny for his age.

Well, lo and behold, we visited the girl we gave him to a year later, and in struts this veritable lion kitty, huge and definitely a badass, though very friendly--it was so cool to see!

olivia and her brother (my brother's cat) louie got along great. now, if she's at my mom's for whatever reason she'll hiss at him and its awful. shes great with jasper, though. she also used to be miss friendly, and wouldnt leave anyone alone if they were here. now, she runs under the bed same as japer does if i have company.

Kittens are a lot like human children, I think... they go through phases and "try on" behaviors. My Farley Drexel used to sleep belly-up with his head in the crook of my shoulder when he was younger. It was the cutest thing in history. Now he's a grownup and prefers to be outside getting dirty and starting trouble with the squirrels. I miss his dependent kitten days. However, he's a lot more talkative now, and very good at communicating exactly what he wants. He considerately coughs up his hairballs on tiled surfaces only. He's also not afraid of things like thunder and the mop. Basically, he's become a grownup. He still loves his mom, though... at least when he's hungry or bored.

Simone must have read this post while I was at the gym, as soon as I got back and sat in front of the computer, she came right up and settled into the crook of my arm. She loves SW, she totally could be a foxy kittah dancer.

Mine have a new bizarre nemesis, the protein shaker cup.

Oh wow here comes Jean-Paul, wow now I am a kittah bed.

EDIT - they are grooming each other!

^^^Heehee, the protein shaker cup. Is it a mechanized cup, like a small blender, or is it just a regular cup? Cats pick weird things to be scared of sometimes. Farley has always gotten freaked out when I've dropped a bag of rice or dry beans. If I break a glass he doesn't care; he's not bothered by the vacuum cleaner, but if I drop a bag of rice when I'm putting the groceries away, forget it. He's under the dresser for 10 minutes.

I love it when mine do that. It is the cutest thin in the world seeing them lick eachothers wee heads.

Micro was friendly, but not a lap cat. He would sit next to you, or lie on the foot of the bed with you. He loved to be petted, and loved to have his tummy rubbed. He ws like that for almost five years, but in the last few weeks he has become a lap cat and jumps up and sits on my lap, purrs, and even goes to sleep.

Evil used to fight with all the other cats, but he is getting along more with them. He even plays with them sometimes, and sleeps on the same bed, chair, or couch with them.

Archie and Grayborn have been pretty much the same all their lives, sweet and mellow.

The newest cat, Paws, is a grouchy old tomcat who fights with any cat that comes into the back yard. If anybody wants a cat covered with scars and mangled ears, seven toes on each of his front paws and six on each of the back, you can have Paws as long as you don't own any other cats.

No, just one of those non powered plastic cups with a tight sealing top that mixes via elbow grease. The other day they looked like they kind of wanted to fight it, but as soon as they'd paw the cold plastic (it was full and I had been shaking it) they'd get all intimidated and back away. Only to come back in 5 seconds for another jab.
