Default Help me with foundation brush!

How in the hell do you use a foundation brush? I (finally) bought one from mac, but when I use it the little bristles kind of clump up and paint stripes on me. I'm used to using a sponge to apply.

I use Studio Fix foundation and the brush is MAC 190:

You're most likely not blending the foundation in to our skin enough.

How are you applying the foundation with the brush? Are you kinda like painting it on using long strokes?

Btw the 190 isn't my fav brush for foundation application... I find the 187 to better.

Yeah, I was trying to paint it on. The brush just separates into like 4 clumps though.

When I use the foundation brush, I apply in small circles blending the foundation into my skin. I also like the 187 much better for foundation.

Have you tried washing your brush really well and letting it dry? Maybe the bristles are just stiff from never being used. Washing it might help.

Did you wash the brush first before using it? You should always wash your MU brushes after purchasing them because they are sprayed with a chemical to stiffen and preserve the brushes while they remain in the store.

Also it sounds as if you maybe using too much foundation on the brush at one time.

I washed it with the mac cleanser after I bought it because the sales girl said they put something in the brushes to make them hold shape.

I'll have to try again today with less product and more patience!

I've had the same problem with the exact same brush even after I've cleaned it and everything. I just set my foundation with powder and it goes away.

I'm too cheap to buy another brush till this one wears out but when I do it will be 187.

i have the 187 but only used it for liquid foundation, i didn't realize you could use it for studio tech (and i'm assuming mufe as well.) Is there some advantage to using the "paint" brush over the sponge applicator it comes with because I always thought the sponge looked pretty good.

Studio Tech is pretty heavy and so you have to be careful not to apply to much. SO IMO the foundation brush is a better choice for applying the studio tech foundation because it picks up less product than the sponge and you can build to get the right amount of coverage - hope that made sense.

On the other hand though I prefer the sponge over the brush for the Studio Fix.

Where can I find the answer to:

Is using a brush SO MUCH BETTER than your fingers? I usually do, it's not THAT messy and I guess it looks fine. I also use my ring finger underneath eyes cuz I know harsh strokes can cause wrinkles.

    But any other reasons?

Nope. Using your fingers it a wonderful way to apply foundation because it warms it up and makes it easier to blend.

Using a brush is less time consuming. Also for people with problem skin, using a brush is more sanitary.

True enough! Instead of using the same sponge over and over, I got worried about that so I use disposable cotton pads instead if I'm using a powder compact or somethin.

Lol I'd think it'd be the opposite r.e. time....I mean I def don't slop it on, takes a good couple mins with fingers, but with a brush I can see getting all fancy and carried away! Never tried tho.

oops! I meant to say studio FIX. Although my studio fix and mufe just make my skin feel thirsty right now since the winter air is so cold and dry, maybe I should try studio tech...I need something creamier for my face.

my skin looks heaps better since using a brush and also you need to use much less foundation i find.
YSL do a nice foundation and brush in one which is tres handy for carrying about. But I use a nice chanel foundation brush with it. Also buy a nice brush cleanser like Clinique's one and clean brushes everyday. Its worth it.

I use my brush with MUFE foundation, it works great! (it's just a sephora brand foundation brush, though).

I don't get my brush wet, I leave it dry, but I've never had the problem you're describing either, sorry.

always nice and dry. wet brushes will smudge the foundation and change its consistency.
