Default Stage names, perceptions and earnings

I see stage name threads cropping up at intervals in the Newbie section, so am mildly curious.

    1) For customers.... Do stage names make any difference to your perceptions of a dancer - do you associate personality with choice of stage name? And does that perception influence if you will buy a dance or not?

    2) And for dancers.... Has selecting/changing your stage name made any difference to your earnings, or is your stage name immaterial to how successful you are?

    Phil.

I can't imagine that customers are very comfortable with names like "Fluffy" or "Pussy" or "Starshine" or "Sinnamon" because they probably feel pretty douchey, you know, addressing someone with such a moniker. I think as long as it is something the customer can say with out feeling retarded you are probably okay.

I use the name "Kitty". I haven't seen any real detraction from my earnings, and it does sort of make me want to be more animalistic in my movements and facial expressions. It's a personality that I create along with a name.

A manager who'd been around awhile once told me that "top earners always have real sounding stage names" I don't know if it's true or not, they may just be more common, but I do agree with Jenny.

The sillier you make your stage name, the easier it is for custys to laugh and mock you. Either way, they will often ask, "what's your REAL name" and still not believe you. But its much easier to make a relatively normal stagename that can be a shortcut of real name.

Kat=Ekaterina. For example. Neither of those are my name.

I'm curious as to what customers will say on this one. When I changed clubs, I picked an unusual but 'still could be real' name. Customers who knew me from before said the new name suited me better than the totally real-sounding name I had before.

When I was brand, brand new I picked the name Denae and that really bombed because guys had trouble hearing it/understanding it. Bad choice.

If a girl's personality trumps her name, then I'm not going to question her name even if it is Pandora or Delilah... if they have the ovaries to BE that person--the incredible version of that name... then I find myself falling for them anyway. It's rare for a girl to pick a name like Mercedes or Diamond and to be able to use her personality to eclipse the image that the name already suggests. I've seen so many girls whose actual personas fall dreadfully short of my expectations. In other words... I don't want to see a shy Delilah, a fat Mercedes, or an acne-ridden Ferrari.... the more dissonance there is, the less I'm buying into the package.

I saw a slight increase when I changed my name. I figure it was for several reasons...when I first started dancing I mistakingly let the door girl name me since i had no idea what to choose. She named me "Heaven". So incredibly far from my personality! So the name didnt suit me and I wasnt comfortable with it. I would cringe inside every time I introduced myself as "Heaven". It just wasnt me. When I decided on Cameron 6 months later it was like I found myself at last!

^Yes, a cynical lil ball busting bitch like me does better as an "Autumn" and not a "Fairytale"....I think it's easy enough for them to notice that and would derail too many conversations....

Kitty is cool and could prob work for just about anyone cuz it sounds more like a real name.

OTOH, silly names are all part of the sc experience, aren't they? I prefer real names but cutting out the Babydolls just wouldn't be as fun! I guess I kind of wonder the same thing. Guys probably like silly fantasy names like Babydoll, as long as it fits?

I started out with Jenna--which I love. But when I switched clubs, I changed to Barbie, because I look like a barbie doll. Guys definately noticed the name and some made fun of me, but then still got dances. So I don't think it hurt my sales, but it didn't fit my personality and I hated calling myself that.

I chose Kitty after the living dead doll that I have who is all dressed up in pvc. She is a bad Kitty! lol. I also agree with The Tempest and her animal, pussy connotations. Stroke me the right way and I purr like a kitten hahaha. Am yet to know if I earn while using it, but I know its a name I can pull off.

Thumbs up Re: Stage names, perceptions and earnings

I chose my stage name for several reasons. I'm a big Pink Floyd fan. My body is 100% natural and I wear very little makeup when I work. Using a stereotypical "stripper name" isn't for me... I wanted a REAL female name that sounded exotic, yet classy. Many other dancers think my dresses are "too long", but a lot of customers consider me the "classy lady" that gets naked for them. When everyone else is doing the trashy thing in black, I might wear a red dress that I could easily wear out to a nice restaurant.

Sometimes people find it hard to understand my name with loud music in the background, but I like it so much, the effort is worth it. I'm "Vera" for short.

Vera, what has become of you?

Sometimes I feel silly with my stage name. It's obviously a pseudonym and lots of times I wish I'd picked a real-sounding name. Something classy. But then I feel good because I usually work on Sundays and it's easy for customers to remember my name when they come back in. So mixed blessing.

It sucks because our boss doesn't let us have stage names. But guys still never believe me when I tell them my name anyways. They always think Melina is my stage name. I guess I was just meant to be a stripper! I want the name Roxy or Phoenix. I like the X in the names. seXy!

Not ALLOWED to have stage names??? I've seriously never heard of that. I dont think I'd feel comfortable dancing under my real name..just one more thing that guys can use to stalk you.Plus...I prefer to keep ME and my CHARACTER separate. I dont mind being called by my stage name outsode of work(and have several friends that I think forget I have a real name..they call me Cameron or Cam all the time, lol) but taking my "real" life into the club just doesnt feel right. I want a buffer between me and the customers and a stage name gives me that feeling.

If you arent allowed to have stage names..what do you do when 5 Jennifers(for example) are on one shift??

I'm Roxy! I started going by it 9 months ago and it was like "I should have known that was the one for me YEARS ago". It really suits me well, and when guys ask my real name I say Roxanne. I tell them I got made fun of growing up because of it It's sassy.

Our top earner has a corny-ass name, but she banksssssss.

Mine is Kira and it seems good. A little real, a little sexy, a little unique. I get "Oooh, nice name!" a lot.

They'll either shorten the name to Jen, Jenna, or they'll use the girls middle name. My boss doesn't think it's "classy" too have stage names. It does suck not to have that privacy. There aren't very many girls with my name so it's pretty easy to figure out who I am.

Your boss is a tardo! If anything, he should just have approval/rejection power over a name, or an approved stage name list to choose from.

i would refuse to work in a club that wouldn't allow stage names. i agree with cameron, it's a whole character thing. does he say that if you have a boyfriend you should tell them that to be honest as well? my real name is too unusual anyway, and i would worry about stalkers. how dare he say you can't use stage names! my stage name is completely normal... sam. i tell people samantha is my real name if they ask. and if they say they don't believe me i say ' why would i pick a boring name like that if i was using a fake name? i would use something like bubbles or barbie' they believe me everytime.
