    Default Last Night's Debate

I genuinely enjoyed it. I thought Obama scored soem solid hits on Hillary and i loved her angry face. That will get her a LOT of votes.

No whoppers or mis-statements of fact by Barack but Hillary was Hillary.
She claimed that she served as the head of The Legal Services Corporation.
A total, complete 100% lie. She never worked for the LSC and never sat on their board. In fact her employment opportuniites were limited early in her career by the fact that she flunked the D.C. Bar Exam which at the time had one of the highest pass rates in the U.S.

She claimed that she "personally experienced gender discrimination" and I'm trying to figure out when that was. Was it as First Lady of Arkansas when she got a seat on Wal-Mart's Bd. of Directors ? Or when she entered the Rose Law Firm
as a PARTNER ? Or was it when she served as First Lady or as a U.S. Senator ?

She claimed that SHE ( not Bill ) had been "defeating Republicans in elections for the last 16 years ". If she really served as president for eight years then what's she doing running again ?

Edwards fulfilled his function which was to help take down Obama. Probably the most nonsensical thing he said was that he wanted to give "poor Americans the same mobility that rich folks have to change jobs and move to better neighborhoods." How does he expect to accomplish that ? He didn't say.
How does he expect poor folk to suddenly and immediately qualify for high tech
and other well paying jobs ? He didn't say. How does he expect them to suddenly be able to move to Palm Beach or Malibu ? He didn't say.

I cringed when Edwards pulled the white male card, then claimed he wasn't. Classy!

Well, it can't be that Edwards is advocating a resurrection of the HUD directives to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to approve super-shaky loans to minority borrowers who can't actually afford to buy homes. Arguably, this gov't directive was what set in motion the current 'subprime' mortgage default problem that is tanking the world economy. Perhaps instead he simply plans to raise taxes on the middle class, and then 'give' that tax money to the 'poor' as a mortgage payment subsidy !!! That would prevent future bankruptcies for the 'poor' ... but it would very probably create future bankruptcies for the middle class !

Maybe he will propose increasing the minimum wage to $12 per hour, so that 'poor' people can suddenly afford mortgage payments ? Nope that won't work because the cascade effect will simply raise prices on just about everything, so that the 'poor' wind up being forced to spend their pay increase to buy exactly the same things they can now buy with a $7 per hour paycheck.

I loved it when Obama pwned Hillary when he argued about her sitting on the board of directors at Walmart. It was like a boxing match! Still, what a fucking circus this year is. Has every election year been this bad, or am I just idealizing the past?

I asked myself the same question yesterday... I think it's always a circus, but especially when theres not a single stand-out candidate.

I think Hillary and Bill's attacks on Obama are going to come back to bite them, there was to much attention drawn to them.

I think Bill & Hill pushed the mud-throwing too far and pissed off Obama. It was obvious that they don't like each other and I certainly don't blame him.

Remember; it was Obama who endured MONTHS of personal attacks from Hillary's
    surrogates without responding in kind.
It was Obama that proposed the "truce" that Rangel and Bill promptly violated.
I HOPE Obama has learned once and for all that the Clintons cannot be trusted.
That there is NOTHING they will not do or say to try and win.
That there's no point in being "nice".
That there is a lot more negative material to use against Hillary than she has on him and the stuff on her is much better.

There is already a detectable backlash against Hillary among African-Americans.
In N.Y. where Hillary had been leading Obama among Blacks by as much as 10%-
she now trails him 67% to 22%. Black women especially are turning against Hillary.

I'm starting to think that Bill and Hillary don't care if Blacks get pissed off figuring that they'll just naturaly return to the fold and support her because she's a Democrat. We'll see.

As Jack Valenti said re: LBJ's savaging of Goldwater- "Politics is not bean bag."

I LOVED the debate format. I thought it was much more illuminating than the stultified glorified press conference format we get stuck with in the General Elections.

You're talking about a net difference of Hilary getting 90% of the black vote versus 98% of the black vote in the general election, versus any Republican candidate.

Also, something that Hilary casually proposed during this debate really caught my ear ... along the lines that 'poor' people aren't able to save money in this economy, and that some new gov't program should be instituted to 'match' any money that 'poor' people do manage to save (presumably to be funded by tax increases on the American middle class). That proposal alone should garner Hilary enough additional votes to offset a poor turnout from the black community !

Those are dangerous words. I think she said it "casually" for a reason. If push came to shove, and she was forced to answer questions on it, I kinda doubt that she would really offer true promises on a progrma like that.

It was NOT the 1st time Hillary came up with this loopy budget-buster. Remember her proposal to give every child a $10,000 savings bond at birth ?
