    Default brazilian keratin straightener

forgive me if this has been posted before but i couldn't find it...

I am going this saturday to try out the new brazilian keratin straightener at my salon. Apparently it 1) makes your hair shinier and has less damage 2) only coats the hair, does not penetrate 3) lasts four months

    Has anyone tried this?
I love the idea of coming out fo the gym and the shower and not have to fight for an hour with tangles and a flat iron!!

I got this done and it did NOTHING for me. And my hair isn't even really curly, it's got a tiny bit of wave in the back. I don't know if the girl who did my hair wasn't really experienced or whatnot, maybe you'll have a better experience with yours. Most of the formulas contain formaldehyde, which can cause cancer. It comes from Brazil so it's not regulated by the fda. Oh, and they will tell you not to wash your hair for 4 days, which totally sucks. There's a formaldehyde-free formula made by Coppola, that's what I got. I paid $300. I just straightened my hair with a kit from Walgreens for $30 and it worked way better, my hair is straight now.

i would seriously not even try this. the formaldehyde in this stuff is head-over-heels toxic. check out last october's issue of allure magazine if you want to know more.

its scientifically impossible to straighten hair without breaking down the cuticule (other than flatironing of course). Thats why good ol fashioned lye-based relaxers will always be in vogue.

After explaining that i cant have a tradiitional relaxer, a modeling agency i was gonna work for wanted me to get it done. They showed me that Allure article. The salon charged $400 for the service. I knew no one who had it done and im not going to trust some airbrushed photo in a magazine.

No thank you, id rather spend that on a traditional or japanese relaxer that WILL work.
I'm getting my Dial-A-Stripper service up and running again. If you are in NYC or NJ and are interested in private party dancing, email [email protected] with your SW handle, contact info, photo (if you have one) & best time to call and I'll get back to you asap.

If you're having a party and need strippers, email me with the details and any questions you have. Thanks!

Is there a more recent thread on this? I recently paid $550 to have this "Brazilian Keratin Treatment" and it was a total bullshit waste of money.

I didn't really care if there was harsh chemicals but I totally got ripped off.

Does anybody know a salon in NYC who actually does a treatment that works????

I ordered it online and did it myself for 100$. The exact same product they charge 500$ and up for (QOD Gold) It made my hair shinier and healthier, but I wasn't blown away. It was alright, nothing spectacular.

So I called the salon and I said "I want to know the exact name of the product you used" and she said it is "Brazilian Hair Keratin Treatment"... refused to tell me anything else about it.

I just cannot believe they charged me so much money!!! I am such a good customer at the salon and I don't know what to do now. I want to demand a refund, or partial refund. Like I spend $200+ per month there with color & blowdrys, I can't believe they talked me into this shit.

^^^ BTW, I have leftover keratin product I didn't use, if you want it to touch up your hair, I can send it to you, I just don't want to waste it.

Well I heard the Brazilian Keratin Treatment isn't meant to straighten hair, just smooth it and make it softer. You can look at youtube videos of it being done and the before and after. I wouldn't get it. I don't think it's worth all that money!

Although I do blowdry and flat iron my hair a lot, it's still healthy as hell and I'd rather do that then damage my hair with chemicals. I used to get relaxers when I was younger but stopped and since then my hair has been the healthiest and longest it's ever been. It's down to my butt now and I haven't had any problems.
