Anyone remember obscure early 80's animation classic?
I just got to see it again for the first time in about 20 years! It's still awesome!

Yep, that's the one! When did it come to the theater?? I thought it just died after a brief life on HBO! I remember when I was little, my dad copied it off HBO and I watched it over and over and over. Somewhere in the last 20 years I lost the tape, but K just downloaded it and I got to see it again. It really was some clever, revolutionary animation!

I saw either in high school or shortly after, I graduated in 1983, so there or shortly after. I remember because I saw it with Amy Lincoln and Dennis Hawley. I remember reading about it and John Korty had some connection to Lucasfilm, which is all I needed to hear.
Wow. So long ago.
Thanks, Yek. Those were some good memories. I'm going to have to track down a copy of that now. Videorama or Movie Madness will have it, I bet.

Nope, it was never released on video. The only copies are bootlegs that people taped off HBO. We downloaded a bad-quality VHS version off a bit-torrent site, btjunkie.com if you want to try. Good thing about the poor quality was that it didn't take long to download, and it was still awesome!
And yeah, George Lucas was one of the executive producers on it. And the voice of Ralph the All-Purpose Animal was the same guy who did Garfield!

According to Wikipedia there's multiple versions, with more adult language or less, and alternate scenes, because the actors were improvising.
Reading the description of the movie, I remember the overall story and characters but can't remember which version I saw in the theater.
Man, I just know if I started hunting down a copy, I'd get obsessive and try to track down ALL the versions, which is probably fruitless at this point. And I'd wrack my brain trying to find the version I originally saw... and end up hopelessly confuzzled.
It's a pickle.
