oh I know, we have 2 or 3 here in the summer....they amazing to watch but they are viscous creatures, they are very territorial.

I found this pic on my old HD, the feeder was right by a window.

We have a trumpet vine, and every summer there are several hummingbirds who fly around it to eat from the blossoms. They sit on branches and the telephone wire nearby. Beautiful little creatures.

On the patio, Mrs. UtahMike has a wind chime that is a sculpture of a hummingbird. Once, one of the hummingbirds zoomed in to have a look at it, hovered a foot or so away for a few seconds, then zoomed off again.

Oh, and I've held one in my hands. It had flown into a school building through the open doors in summer and was beating itself against a long bank of windows to try to get back outside. I got behind it and caught it between my two cupped hands. I took it outside and opened my hands. It sat there for a second, then buzzed upward in a spiral. I watched it until it disappeared high above me.

Somewhere I have pix of the hummingbirds at the trumpet vine. If I can find one, I'll scan it and post it.

G-Real, that is an awesome photo!

And yeah, they love trumpet vines. I used to have one (I liked that vine so much I named it Satchmo) but I couldn't get hummingbirds to it very often; I think we lived in the wrong part of town and it didn't flower much. I'm so tickled that we have so many hummingbirds now.

This morning Apu was hanging out in the tree and ANOTHER male hummingbird came up to the feeder, and Apu chased him off! I'm not 100% sure which one was Apu, but there's a white spot on Apu's tail that I didn't see on the other one. So apparently the word has gotten out that we're the only dumbasses in Portland with a feeder up in January!
