I am considering getting my boobs redone in the near future and I like to take care of my body so I have done a great deal of research on breast augmentation. I have found a great doctor, chosen what size, etc. etc., but my biggest concern was capsular contracture.
The general consensus seems to be: doctors don't know what causes it and there's not much we can do about it. However they DO know that smokers have an increased risk of capsular contracture and many doctors suggest that patients take a vitamin E supplement during recovery.
I have done SO much research on this I can't cite all the articles and studies properly, but if you research them yourself I think you will find the same information.
One thing some doctors have noticed is that there is a lower rate of capsular contracture in breast augmentation patients who have asthma and are taking a prescription called papaverine. It is a smooth muscle relaxer allows blood to flow more freely through the blood vessels. Papaverine also reduces capsular contracture once it has started to form. Its a vasodilator. (Vitamin E is also a vasodilator, might I add.)
Basically capsular contracture is caused when capsules of tightly-woven collagen fibers normally form as an immune response around a foreign body (eg. breast implants, pacemakers, orthopedic joint prosthetics), tending to wall it off. It create a pocket of blood around the implant (hematoma.) My conclusion is that capsular contracture is related to vasopression/ blood circulation.
SO, IT IS MY HYPOTHESIS THAT CAPSULAR CONTRACTER CAN BE REDUCED AND TREATED BY AVOIDING VASOCONSTRICTERS AND CONSUMING VASODILATORS (in moderate amounts.)
This is why I don't think this information is widely known or published:
1. Because there haven't been enough conclusive studies published, and
2. Plastic surgeons don't benefit from spending gazillions of dollars on research because they gain more business from capsular contracture patients.
Here are some vasoconstricters (things to AVOID) from wikipedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasoconstriction
including amphetamines, antihistamines, caffeine, decongestants and stimulants
Supplements that IMPROVE blood circulation include vitamin E, grapeseed extract, fish oil capsules, and garlic.
So, for all of my girlies on stripperweb and any of your friends that are getting their boobs done, I hope this information is of some help to you. good luck.

, and my surgeon said (because I asked) that massage makes no difference as far as CC is concerned, because that was my big worry too. Nobody wants to look like they have gym socks under their skin. So anyway I did no massage. No particular supplements. I wore my support bra (even in the shower) & did no strenuous activity. Not hard, I'm extraordinarily lazy. My breasts still look, by all accounts, perfectly natural. Now, I did have a baby after BA, and one before too, but I think it might not hurt to rub your new boobs (gently, at first, they will feel like alien boobs but that changes) and take vitamin E but don't go nuts & worry too much. Boobs will more than likely look great. If you have a good dr and something goes wrong, which is statistically rare, he/she will work with you. Happy boobs!
