Default I don't like the way my ADHD medication makes me feel anymore

I've been taking Concerta for awhile now for my adhd...close to two years now. While it works and does what it's supposed to do, I find that it stifles my natural exuberance and makes me feel monotone. I don't like that, I want to be my bubbly, flighty, happy go lucky self! I know that several people on the board take stimulant meds for their ADD, do any of you find that your personality is different when you take your meds or is it just me?

I take Adderall and I don't notice mood changes really. I feel less flighty though. I retain my natural exuberance, but I also take a pretty small amount, only about 10 mg.

I take ritalin, and although it helps me to really zone in on whatever my teachers or anybody else is saying, it really stifles any creative thinking on my part. It's like I can pay attention to anything that's going on, but if you ask me to come up with ideas I'm blank. Usually I have a million ideas running through my head. I only take it two days a week though.

I take dexamphetamine. I really struggle balancing between taking enough that I concentrate and get things done, and taking so much I become an insomniatic mindless drone.

I do find it changes my personaility a bit. I try and not take it at least two days a week to give my system a break, and not get too high a tolerance.

I take Adderral, or D-amphetamine. It doesn't change my personality, and I usually take about 10mg, 5 days a week. If you see me really hyper and talking a mile a minute, then I'm probably unmedicated that day. But it doesn't change my thinking, more like my behavior. I am still having all of those thought, but I can keep my dialogue internal, and finish a conversation (sometimes). I can also sit still longer. Does that make sense?

I stopped taking my meds exactly because of that. I'm trying more to consciously change my behaviors.

There was a thread on the 'I'm better now' syndrome, of people on long-term meds. I can't find it now, but I recall it was insightful, I wish someone could dig that up.

The Adderal made me focus really well and still does. It actually makes me like people and enjoy conversation. But it makes my mine race and I worry like crazy. It sort of takes away from the Effexor which is an anti-anxiety and anti-depressant med. It'll give me energy too but makes me pretty uptight. If I have a lot of studying or a long class I'll take it but for practical work it sucks. It makes me focus in on detail and get so wrapped up in something it'll take me three hours to do it. And the time just flys out the window. However, if I take it when I'm at home and have a lot of housework or errands I can get so much done. I never took it every single day and now I only take it two or three times a week. I'd like to make that one time a week or never.

Basically Adderal and I had a brief love affair which has turned into a love/hate relationship.

I take adderall XR 25mg. I am a full-time student (19 hrs/week), and theres no way I could handle it without my meds. When I was younger, I was prescribed strattera and concerta, and they did nothing for me except leaving me nausious. Doctors at the time could prescribe psych meds, but my doctor would not allow prescibing adderall. I never got a chance to try it until my freshman year in college. I told my psychiatrist how I had used it in the past and it had worked without any problems and she prescribed it to me. I honestly have no side affects, except that I lose a little weight from not eating regularly. It definitely balances me out. I wish I could take it forever LOL =0)

I used to take Adderal, but it makes me feel too speedy nowadays. All it is, is sugared down meth anyways (or so it feels like). I hate meth, I hate the way it makes me feel, I can't take anything that reminds me of that sort of drug.

I wonder if a lot of that crappy feeling is because of how street meth is made. D-Amphetamine a lot purer and cleaner than street Meth, which can be made with all types of caustic and dangerous ingredients.

Ok, I'm going to link Wiki again for the differences. The entries have lots of references.

However...looks like meth HAS been used to treat ADD, and the two are chemically very close. Interesting. Neither meth nor Adderal has gotten my high, unlike cocaine. And I've never had a "come-down" from the few times I did meth, although I couldn't get deep sleep for a few days. Well, ya learn something new every day!

you're right they are EXTREMELY similar, crystal meth has an extra methyl (CH3) group attached which speeds transmission to the brain. Also, it's recrystallized hence the name "crystal methamphetamine." In fact, I'm quite certain that methamphetamine is available via prescription although I don't know off hand the name of the med and good luck getting a script for that one! haha

anyhow, thanks everybody for the replies. I just haven't been taking my meds and trying to deal with it. Maybe I'll just take my meds on MWF and see how that works out.

    Wiki knows all.
Desoxyn® CII is a brand of methamphetamine hydrochloride (also known as desoxyephedrine, hence the name "Desoxyn"), indicated for treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD), narcolepsy, and exogenous obesity. Desoxyn is a Schedule II medication under the U.S. DEA Schedule system.

I tryed to pull an all-nighter one night completing my portofolio for school. I stayed up all night long. I had been taking Adderal since that morning for school. I took half a 20mg tab that morning, another half at lunch and a whole one when I got home. I started feeling tired about 9 so then I took another whole one. At midnight I started getting tired again so I took another half. I was wired, it was one of the dumbest things I've ever done. I had good intentions and focused but I got so caught up in my work I had no idea how long it was taking me because the time was going by so quickly. It was the night just flashed by. Before I knew it it was 5am and I was starting to freak out. I had a panic attack and took some benadryl to calm me down. It took me the weekend to completely recover from that shit. But I would say I was definately "speeding".

No, Adderal gave me a very similar crappy feeling... and a nasty comedown while I was taking the time released 20mg. I do feel high after taking it, even just a little from a 10 mg. I don't like that speedy high feeling. I'm a pothead damn it. I took Adderal before I tried meth (I first tried it when I was 18, I used it almost every weekend for 2-3 months. UGH, bad mistake but at least I haven't touched the shit since and I'm completely revolted by it.). I just tried taking Adderal again not too long ago, and I just said "Fuck this!" because it really settled in how similar the two are. Glad Adderal can help some, but not me. Actually smoking pot has helped me more when I have my little ADD episodes. As long as I smoke a certain strain and not too much!
