Every time I think she has stooped to a new low in her campaign against Obama;she and Bill outdo themselves.
Yesterday, Hillary called on Senator Obama to stop injecting race into the campaign ?????????
It was Bill who compared Obama to Jesse Jackson.
It's Hillary who keeps saying that the election is "not about race or gender" when SHE wants it to be about both. If she wants race and gender OUT of the campaign all she has to do is shut up about both and send Bill back to Chappaqua until the nomination has been decided. They keep playing the race card and then trurn around and try to blame Obama !!!! It would be hysterically funny were it not so obvious and so pathetic. It's so reminiscent of Claude Rains in CASABLANCA- Hillary is "shocked ; SHOCKED ! " that race has become an issue when she and Bill have done everything they can to paint Obama as the "black candidate". It's been HER surrogates attacking Obama.
She had the gall to try and tie Obama to Rezko when the list of shady and sleazy characters she and Bill have been ACTUALLY involved with is incredibly lengthy in both names and longevity.
The reason all of this is happening; the reason that Hillary is jeopardizing Democrat unity is because she is scared and desperate. She can see the enthusiasm that Obama generates and that she is incapable of anything of the kind. She knows she has very high negatives while he does not . And history has shown that when the Clintons get desperate they get dirty and careless.
Btw, if gender is not an issue why does Hillary need Bill to drag her over the finish line ? Why does she need him at all ? Because down deep a lot of Dems like him and don't particularly care for her. The reasons are OBVIOUS. The members of this Bd. cannot come up with anything likeable about her except her willingness to persevere through scandal. I don't think it's any easier for Democrat voters to come up with something likeable about her and they're starting to lose their affection for Bill.
It's NOT just about race or gender. It's also generational. Obama has generated record turn-outs and where he has lost ( N.H. and Nevada ) it was narrowly. He has bought out young voters and new voters in record numbers. Where some think Hillary is just Bill w/o a penis; others see Obama as the heir to JFK. ( Caroline and Ted have both endorsed him.) Where he has won ( Iowa and S. Carolina ) it was by huge margins. It's NOT a "black thing" even though Bill and Hill desperately want to make it so- Iowa; Nevada and New Hampshire all have minute Black populations yet Obama ran well.
Most telling of all; those that know Hillary best; those who have worked with her for the last eight (years in the Senate; her DEMOCRAT colleagues are for the most part supporting Obama or staying neutral.
Polls show Obama landsliding against EVERY possible Republican nominee. The Republicans would much rather run against her than Obama. Any attempt to "Willie Horton" Obama will be a suicidal disaster.
If Obama holds his own on Super Tuesday( and he's likely to win : Georgia; Alabama; Tennesee; Illinois; Missouri ; probably Massachusetts and maybe New Jerseyj and he'll stay close everywhere else except Arkansas) the momentum will ALL be in his direction. Not even Hillary wins in California and New York wil be enough to stop him. The best Hillary can hope for is a "brokered' Convention with Edwards playing kingmaker. That is WHY she is so desperately trying to get the Florida and Michigan delegations seated at the Democrat Convention
despite initially going along with the DNC decisions not to seat them and the candidates pledge not to campaign in those states.
The only group standing by Hillary is WHITE Women over 30. Every other demographic either goes for Obama ; splits or goes to Edwards (white men in S.C. )
I honestly don't think it's dawned on Hill and Bill that their racial tactics haven't just riled up the Black vote against them. It's pissing off enough whites to make it counter-productive but it MIGHT be too late for them to cool it and Bill can't help himself anyway. I find it surprising that someone as politically astute as Bill doesn't see that He doesn't particularly like the idea of being replaced as
the "First Black President" by a President who really is.
One more cause for Hillary to worry: Obama has consistently outperformed the polls i.e. his vote totals have been much higher than his poll numbers while except for New Hampshire; Hillary has underperformed.
Somebody hand her a hankie.
