The Master Cleanse is bunk. Please consider more healthy routes.![]()
the master cleanse is not bunk for people who want it as a cleanse rather than a weight loss routine. As far as the article SS posted, I didn't feel it really explained why this supposedly didn't work. If you go to the curezone site I posted on the previous thread, you find out what the results were for other people--
yes there was weight loss for those who continued to work out (a lot of people reported MORE energy), and also ate the right foods after coming off of the diet.
There were also a lot of reports about other health issues being helped or disappearing altogether.
Do your own research.
You could, probably, lose ten pounds and keep most of it off as long as you are working out.
Also-- you could continue working. People on curezone write about which days were bad for them, typically headaches or a general brain fuzziness. More days are good than bad for these.
Here's one example:
Hi All,
Well it's day 14 for me and I am feeling good! I had a few really emotional days--but I started to feel that passing yesterday afternoon. I feel 21 days is going to be easy now--undecided about going for 28--I'll decide when it gets closer. I find that when I am having detox symptoms, some exercise and a sauna seems to help speed things up--my massage really helped too!!
Have been reading more about juicing--I do a tiny bit--lemons, grapefruit, dandelion, cucumber and peppers--but no combinations and it definitely sounds intriguing!
Physically I am doing well, knee pain from 4 previous surgeries is gone, working on my back--had a car accident 6 years ago and have had problems ever since. Most exciting--what makes my husband think this really works is I have a cyst on my calf. I haven't had it removed because it is deep and would leave a big crevice in the front of my leg. It is now less than half the size. Seems the cyst is a tribute to bad diet and it dissolving is proof of how important diet is!!
Anyway I' past the hump--good luck to all of you!!!

I'm not saying it doesn't work, I'm saying it denies the body nutrients and puts the body into starvation mode. That harms the body more than a cleaned up diet ever will.
That's a valid opinion, SS, and you're entitled to it.
I've done it myself twice, and felt fan-fucking-tastic afterwards, and I'm a very athletic person who was a professional modern dancer before I ever set foot on a strip club stage. I never lost any muscle mass, and believe you me, I would know about it. I won't go into massive detail here since I already posted about it in the other thread, but I'm a very health and nutrition-conscious person, and ten measly days out of my life were nothing.
That's what was true for me, it may not be true for everyone. But just because it's not healthy for SOME PEOPLE does not mean that it is therefore unhealthy for all people. This is true of any cleanse or diet. It's up to the individual to do proper research, as fancygirl says, and to follow the plan responsibly.
SS, I don't mean to seem like I'm attacking you, and you do make a good point that one should certainly be cautious about this cleanse and do research before you try it. I would add that, again, this is true for ANY cleanse/diet/eating plan anyone could ever try.
To answer the OP's central question, I did work while on the cleanse, several times. I won't lie, by the end of an 8 hour shift I was a little bit more worn out than usual, but I had plenty of the lemonade with me and was able to perform just fine overall. I normally do a very high-energy pole-monkey show, and while I wasn't about to try brand-new, extra-difficult tricks out, my show didn't suffer either.
I WOULD definitely recommend that you try to not work the first few days you're on it, as that's when your energy will be lowest and your bowels are adjusting as well. But by day three or so you should feel like you've equalized. Does that make sense? And make sure to mix up a few jugs of the lemonade to bring with you - the more the better.
Hope that helps!

28 days drinking only the water/honey/pepper combo? No wonder her pain is gone, her body is in shock and releasing loads of endorphins so she doesn't shut down!
I think something like this wouldn't be safe after 3 days. A few of my coworkers did at and both failed within 5 days.

It's too soon to report any progress on this method working, but I havent had a problem going over the calorie intake I've set for myself (while still eating a nutritious dinner and healthy snacks) and I'm still energetic enough to exercise so I think it will help me continue to lose weight. Maybe you could try something similar.
C'mon. If you guys haven't done the cleanse, then you really do not know what you are talking about.
First of all...you do not use honey. You use Grade B or C Maple syrup (this is much better organic as it is basically cooked enough to get the syrup, but not to kill the nutrients, etc in it). The syrup is actually LOADED with nutrients, etc. The cayenne pepper is used to help cleanse the body...speed up the metabolism and kill the appetite a bit. The lemon helps with cleansing the liver and kidneys and also loads the body up with Vitamin C.
Have whatever opinion about the cleanse you want. But, this cleanse actually works. However, while people do tend to lose weight on the cleanse, it is not and should not be a weight loss goal. Not everyone will lost weight (it's usually retained water weight from bloat, etc) and the cleanse is really meant to help the liver and kidneys cleanse to work more efficiently.
As with everything, just because YOU don't think it works and because YOU haven't tried it, doesn't mean that what YOU think is right. You're entitled to your opinion, but that does not mean that what you based your opinion on is based in fact.

I'm not going to fight about it, but I stand by my research that it is unhealthy for long periods of time. Just because I have no done it doesn't mean I have no clue what I'm talking about.
Long term? As in more than 30 days? Yes, bad. Doing it once a year for no more than 20-30 days (or less)? Not bad. Not at all. In fact, fasts and things like this have been done for thousands of years...
Just because the "research" says it's bad doesn't mean it is. I've done it quite a few times and I've always had great results and felt wonderful afterwards.

Never mind. Not allowing myself to get angry over having my intelligence insulted because I am concerned.
the important part is the emotional detox, the physical detox, and bringing your metabolism back SLOWLY--- it can easily fail IF you are just focusing on the weight you lose in the first week, two weeks, or three weeks.
Here is a post from:
the short reply:
Yup! :-/
its why you gotta ease into eating food very slowly and carefully... speed up the metablism slowly.
cayenne pepper is there to speed up metabolism so your metabolism wont slow down completely and not as bad as H2O fasts. *
But!.. (there's always a but isn't there) The act of fasting helps you evaluate what you do take into your body and how much. You are exercising control over your urges. And that half of the reason why people are overweight... overindulging and/or lack of physical activity.
I treat the cleanse as an exercise, an exercise in self control. An exercise in taking control over my urges. AND just like any (physical) exercise you must keep it up. This is especially true with the master cleanse.... So you've starved yourself for 2 weeks, alright awesome work.... YOU AREN'T DONE! *
Its just the first step in a lifelong process. and that goes for master cleansers who are lookin' to purge their bodies of toxins... after the fast they must limit the processed toxic foods they take in and that is especially true for those who are doing this "Master Cleanse" to purge some extra pounds. *This is an exercise of the mind over the body and you must keep that going or you WILL regain those extra pounds back again and thus going through this process for nothing.
if you want to read posts about someone who is CORRECTLY breaking the master cleanse look at spheesta's posts in the emotional detox section.
In summary to your question. yes the metabolism does indeed slow down.
However, I believe those that do gain more weight back did not truly 'Grok' the master cleanse.
My husband bought these at GNC for us

I haven't started mine yet but he started his about 2 weeks ago. He's lost a couple pounds ( I can see a big difference in that belly of his!) and says his head feels more clear, has more energy during the day and just feels healthier in general.
What's cool is with this one you can still go about your daily life, you don't have to stay home or be near a toilet at all times. It's just two pills twice a day or something like that.....
Just a suggestion![]()
I'm on Day 5 and to be honest I've had nothing major happen - unless you count an irrational outburst at the boyfriend !
I hear Day 7 is the hardest so that is nerve racking, but I can honestly say I've had MORE energy.
You take lax tea before bed - and that gets me out of bed at 6am, I do the SWF and then drink some lemonade.
So far I find my sleeping patterns have improved, my mood is more stabe (apart from one incident), skin looks great, and energy levels are high - I'm off to do some cardio now!
One down side is the tongue coating and bad breath, and you really need to use a fluoride free toothpaste.
Good Luck !

I have to say, I have tried other cleanses. Someone told me it was a good 'cure' for IBS, but way way not the case. I was so fucked up and sick from it for like three days.
Spastic colons cannot handle a cleanse. They are spastic at the best of times, so overloading is scary painful. So for anyone with IBS or IBD, I just want to say, beware.
I have tried fruit/ veggie cleanses for a few days, while taking a prodiem pill am and pm. And lots of peppermint tea. This was okay.
Try this:
I've heard of great results from the velocity diet. It can be a bit pricey, but from what I understand and have seen it is WELL worth it. I'm thinking of trying it the week before and 2 weeks after my BA that's coming up. Search the site for more information about the velocity diet also. I've heard good things about a sugar detox diet. I haven't really researched into it much. Also, velocity seems much safer than master cleanse. That sounds scary. But hey, if you can do it and feel OK then go ahead and do it! I know it wouldn't work for me. I work out 2-4 hours a day. I would get very sick. Good luck!

Ah, the velocity diet! That's exactly what I was thinking of as I read this thread, lol. I'm starting that in a couple of weeks, I still have to order the supplements.
A cleanse where you only get calories from sugar and a little bit of lemon juice might be great for someone who just wants to be thin, but I've put in way too many hours lifting to risk going a month with no protein. I just don't see how you can take in so little calories and not lose muscle mass. Everybody's different but that doesn't make any sense at all to me.
^^^ as stated before in this post, you get your calories from the maple syrup-- so you can have as many calories as you want. Most advise newbies to get at least 1200-1300 calories per day, although more is good too.

I actually did the master cleanse for 14 days & the only bad thing i felt was really cold but besides that i felt fine, & after that i felt so good i had so much energy i was not craving all the junk food that i thought i would want, it was awesome as a matter of fact i think it's time to do it again. Of course everyone is different and although i felt fine some one else might feel like shit. My hubby tried it and he didn't make it passed a few hours but then again i do have more willpower than him.![]()
