Default Not too sure how to get the research I need.

So, I posted a thread about a week ago aking for ideas for my social deviance paper. I've chose three or four possibilities : Furries, "Looners," and Freeganism. However, we have to propose our idea to the professor by showing him an acedemic journal about the subject. The problem is I'm still learning about computers and I have no idea how to obtain an acedemic journal besides going to the school library, which I've already done and couldn't find a single thing on those subjects in that out dated mess. Anyone kno whow I can find acedemic journals on those subjects?

Most universities have on-line access to academic networks. These allow you to (electronically) simultaneously search the indexes of a range of journals for articles matching the keywords you input.

Once you have identified the journal article you either download the article (if you're lucky) or send off for a photocopy (if you're not).

I would go to the libary during a quiet time and ask a librarian if they have that form of on-line access and how you connect to it.

In my college, the libraries had links to academic journals, such as JSTOR.

You could then download the PDF versions, or get them sent to you. Ask the campus librarian to show you how to access the journal databases.

Go to the school library and get a librarian to help you. They can tell you how to access all of the online journals the school subscribes to.

There's a way to get into them just from the school's website at your school -- go to the libraries page and it will have directories for all the journals and Lexis/Nexis.

    Google is always good.

I'm no expert but the academic journals are very disorganized as there are many competing databases. You must search them separately. Talk to a librarian or find which databases have psychology magazines/journals and search those. You should be able search from home and many have computerized pdf's so you don't have to visit the library.

    At my closest college:
PsycARTICLES(1894- ) fulltext database info guide
PsycINFO (1887- ) selected fulltext database info guide
Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection (1930- ) selected fulltext database info
    Consider also:
... (list of general databases, may have psychology articles also, search the largest)
