OMG that's so PERFECT! ^^ I'm definitely ordering it!
PERFECT is the key word for FAM as BC. If you have even 1 sign of fertility- (full or partial ferning, fertile cervical mucus, ovulation pain, cramping, temperatures indicating fertility or possible ovulation, fertile cervical position....) you need to use a barrier or abstain.
you also need to be really acurate to use this method, amount of time you sleep, wake-up times, sleeping conditions, all of that is important. So is self control. going to sleep at the same time and waking up at the same time is necessary to your success at FAM. Colds, traveling, and the temperature of your room (like having hot heat on 1 night) can all make your temps off, and then you need to be smart about it, and realize that.
You also need to take into acct that you need to do this for at least 3 months to get an idea of your fertility picture. durring those 3 months a barrier or adstaining is highly suggested.

well, there are shortcuts you can take once you've been charting and have gotten a feel for your cycle's patterns. you can chart as little as ten days a month. but of course one shouldn't shortcut until one's been charting a year or more...
You should ovulate 14 days after the first day of your period. So if your period starts the 1st you should ovulate the 15th. Around that time your vaginal mucus will be come sticky like an egg white. It will be thinner in consistancy and clear/white. I would avoid unprotected sex from the 11th to the 20th because sperm can live up to 72 hours in the vagina. This method worked for me for a while when I was married before I took the pill. My periods became irregular though and it was too much of a risk.
I've also heard of the body temperature method which I don't know a lot about.

Anyone have a Lady-Comp?? Debating on using it. Just got back on hormonal bc pills after five years and they're making me nuts!!

I do this successfully and I feel so much better being off hormonal birth control but it does come with risks and you will still need condoms for your fertile days.
Another option is a non hormonal birth control pill called ormeloxifene (centchroman) which works as a selective estrogen receptor modulator [SERM]. You only have to take it twice per week for 12 weeks, and then once per week after that. It has been used in India for decades.
I've been using the natural method since I was 20, now 41 I have never got pregnant both my sisters were on birth control, but I just did not want any chemicals in my body, and also because I was and still have a very regular and precise menstral cycle.
anyone heard of lady comp? im curious too, says 99.3 success with correct use ....im tired of hormones and copper making my body go crazy!

I also use fertilityfriend.com my cycles are bat shit crazy. I stopped charting because I am trying to get pregnant and after trying for over 3 years I am frustrated. It's pointless to keep charting when one or both of us is clearly infertile. My next step is to get some testing done on both of us to find out what problems I may have or what problems he may have or if we are both having problems. I'm not so sure the basal body temperature thing is accurate anyway. I've had that method tell me I ovulated when I did not.
I've been using this method along with condoms since I started being sexually active pretty much and I have never been pregnant to my knowledge. Hormonal bc is not my cup of tea. I learned a lot from this website:
http://www.thebillingsovulationmetho...%E2%84%A2.html
The chance of conception from unprotected sex on the day that you ovulate is 50%. It decreases by a half each day after or before. So if you have a "textbook" cycle and ovulate on day 14, your chances of conception from unprotected sex are as follows for the rest of the month: 25% day 13 and 15, 12.5% day 12 and 16, 6.25% day 11 and 17, 3.125% day 10 and 18, 1.5625% day 9 and 19.
This method involves reading a lot of literature and becoming well-versed in the female reproductive system and becoming aware of all of the different signs that YOUR body exhibits when it is fertile. You will need to have consistent periods, for at least 6 months before "relying" on this method alone, though I rarely do. There were a few times when I had unprotected sex before ovulation but it just makes me too nervous so my personal rules are no unprotected sex until after I am sure that I have ovulated. I use condoms religiously in the first half of the month and check them for leaks. The key to using this method successfully is amalgamating information from your body based on the timing of your period, your temperature readings (never did that personally), cervical mucus, cramps, and hormonal indicators of ovulation. It's always been pretty easy for me to tell when I ovulate, my cervical goo is really obvious, I get ovulation cramps, and I also get crazy horny like a teenage boy, which is why I like this method. Women who are not as saavy with the reproductive system or have less communicative bodies might prefer another method of bc, everyone is different.
