Sorry... another food spoilage question thread.I'm making some cookies today for my bf's superbowl party on Sunday. The eggs in my fridge say to "sell by" Feb 1st (today). Since that is today, are they safe to use?

If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

I'm pretty sure you can use them. Here's a good link.

Yes that is the day they need to be sold by the grocery store.
It was years before I realised eggs even expired, my husband told me after we were married. I didnt tell him how many expired eggs he probably ate b/c of me.
Lol, did he keep getting sick?

Yes. Eggs last practically forever if they're not broken. My cousin used to live in argentina and she said they didn't even refridgerate eggs there. They just left them on the counter until they used them.![]()
This is so funny, just an hour ago I was on the phone with my mom, asking "The egg carton says to eat by January 25...can I still eat them?" She said yeah and I had eggwiches. Yay!
Although nothing beats fresh eggs. *sigh*
Stores generally set their sell-by date at least a week before the actual expiration date. They do so in an attempt to prevent any law suits due to spoilage.
Of course if your milk smells funky, throw it out regardless...Eggs, however, you're safe with. If it as begun rotting, you'll know it. Trust me.
They are safe. Plus, you're cooking with them anyways, which will kill the bacteria (if any).
omg i remember i was gonna bake a cake or brownies or something and i cracked the egg into the mix and it was either dark green or brown ... i cant remember so ya.......they go bad in my opinion....oh god the smell was so awful! but if they look normal to you...then go for it...
ohh i have a trick
A sure fire way to know if your egg is safe-
If you submerge a raw egg into a cup of water and it stays on the bottom it is safe, if it rises then it has bad gases in the little air spot and should not be eaten. If i'm not sure i will test one or two to make sure the whole batch is ok.

Eggs generally will be ok past the expiry date. And salmonella exists on their shells, not actually inside the egg. So decreasing the contact with the shell is actually the best way to eat eggs safely.
Because there ain't no tits on the radio
