    Default Rocky Horror

After finding out my 27 year old friend had never seen the Rocky Horror Picture Show, I've decided that I'm going to drag her out to see it some Saturday.

It got me thinking though. Anyone out there ever been a regular attender of the show, or perform as part of a Rocky cast? By its nature, that movie tends to attract fans who are a bit more liberal and willing to buck the norms of society.

I was on a cast back in Greenbelt, MD in the late 80s. Then, when I moved to Tampa, I performed with a cast at Hillsborough 8 from '93-'94. After I stopped performing, I still went quite a bit as my good friend had taken over as director of the cast, and they moved to Pinellas when the other theater cancelled the movie.

Haven't been in years now, though the cast performing it at the Beach Theater in St. Pete is the direct descendant of my old cast. Still, for nostalgia's sake, and because I think everyone should see this movie at least once in their life, I think I'll take my friend down there sometime soon.

I was involved in the show when my community theatre did it at the age of 18. One of the most most delightful experiences of my life--next to getting a lapdance from a lovely transvestite at a live show at the age of 15 (almost 16). But then I've shared that story here before.

    I played...Janet...Big shocker.

Awesome. I've seen the live musical, but only performed in front of the screen in the theater. Started as Eddie/Dr. Scott, then moved on to Brad. Between switch nights and filling in for missing cast members, I played every role except Columbia and Janet.

While it was fun to play, I can't say I made a good Frank'n'furter. My fishnets were saggy and I couldn't breathe with the damn corset on.

I love Rocky Horror!!! The rep. theater in NH does live shows every summer. It's at midnight and we all get dressed up like characters or even just in flashy skanky clothes. They always do a great job. Its so much fun! My mom raised me on the Rocky Horror Picture Show...no wonder I turned out this way.

I'm pretty sure Rocky Horror was a seminal experience for a lot of strippers. I know I loved going and dressing up when I was in high school.

I played Magenta from the age of 16 till 20. Technically the only character I never played was Frank. Though my favorites were Magenta (all eye mak-up and a comb) and Columbia (cutest costume)

Oh I love Rock Horror. Do you know if anywhere in Tampa is still doing the interactive shows?

I've seen it perfomed twice, and it was so much fun! The first time I went, someone from the cast came up to me and asked if it was my first time. I said yes, and they drew a "v" for virgin in red lipstick on my forehead!

I am ashamed to admit that even though I am obsessed with this movie and my friends band opened for the live show in Philly when I was in high school...I've never seen it live. I heard that they did it in Hollywood for Halloween so I'm hoping they do it again so I can go.

I went to RHPS every weekend between 19 & 21, and a lot after that until about 23. I was a fill in person a few times and an 'unconventional conventialist' a lot. So much fun. I miss it.

Oh and I did the costumes for a stage production last year! That was insane/wonderous.

I feel like I should know you, RL. What theater did you go to? Woodbridge?

I went from the time I was 16 to about the time I was 19, once and even sometimes twice a weekend. I actually met my ex husband there.

I'm probably a good bit older than you, so it's not that likely. I bet the same folks still go though. I did Bayville & Bound Brook. I've been to Edison a few times.

    Ah, that's true.

I think I missed Edison by a few years, although it went back there for a while.

The Beach Theater in St. Pete Beach still has shows every Saturday. You can find the cast's Myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/rhpsip. With the demise of the annual Tampa Theatre Halloween show, it's the only place I know to see it in the area. Didn't make it to last night's show, but I think I've convinced my friend she has to see it.

They usually have a really big show/convention/party in Hollywood for every 5th year anniversary. The actors from the movie (at least those who will aren't embarrassed to be associated with it *cough* Susan Sarandon *cough*) show up. Some of the best performers from casts all over show up and put on the live show. My friend played the Criminologist at a few of the big shows.

I LOVE RHPS. I have gone to the live show a few times and laughed my ass off throughout the whole thing.

Now if I could only make a feature show based around Rocky Horror...that would rock my socks. I don't think I would even care if some people didn't understand it, it would be worth getting a reaction out of the people that did.

You can make it, just not in order, have a friend cut the songs that work for you and strip from Janets dress through Frank down to Rocky in the gold shorts.

They do this at horror/sci fi cons here, too! We got to see Pat Quinn drunkenly trying to do call backs at the last one!

I go to the show at the Beach Theater all the time... Ed and Dan Mango have been there the longest, I'd say. The cast has changed a lot over the years.

    This is me as Janet:
