Default So I cut out drinking...

Okay, not really "cut out" so much as "cut down significantly". Like, I'll have one when I go out with friends at night or something (which is generally once a week), but that's pretty much it. No drinking when I'm home alone and no binge drinking when I go out. I'm doing this to lose weight and to generally just be healthier. My problem is that I'm bored to tears half of the time! It's okay during the day when I'm doing other things and can find stuff to do... but I live by myself and I'm alone at night. Even if I tried to make plans with other people, my friends are generally "drinking buddies". Well, at least the ones who live close enough to me and who don't have 9-5 jobs. I'm sick of video games, TV and movies are starting to loose their appeal, and bored eating would be counterproductive to what I'm trying to do in the first place. This sucks! I'll catch myself going, "Gee, I'm bored. I'll have a martini and... NO NO NO!" On the other hand, my apartment is cleaner than it has been in a long time, lol.

^Lol, I like your sig. Yea, I've been cooking more food than I need (to experiment). I even made jars of JAM to give away, for crying out loud (I even read for hours about the proper way to sanitize a jar for canning)! I've been spending more time just standing in the shower just to pass time, lol. I actually made that bacon vodka (it will be ready in about two weeks), too.

amen on the cutting down on drinking. I always feel peppier and more into working out and just doing the me stuff I used to love. I know I am drinking less (new club, less hours) and have been able to work out and eat right since I am not over tired or craving greasy food.
BUT, I need to cut down a lot more at work and after hours. I need to make a pack with the boy about coming home and just snuggling after work. The food is already cooked (I plan ahead) so we should just take it easy so we don't sleep until 2 the next day.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

Me too, although Ive never been a heavy drinker. I never drink alone, or with my family. Only at work or if I go out with certain friends once in a while. Some of my friends dont drink which is cool, we just do water all night. On the other hand though it has been 25 years since I first started drinking and even though Im not huge drunk that must have taken a toll on my liver!
I keep going over my 3 -4 drink limit at work on the weekends too though which shits me! I find that customers seem to not really dig chicks that drink water and it seems to effect my earnings. I need to work on my husstle I guess!

I have over come some heavier addictions in the past. I am not a huge drinker, but I understand that custies are weird if you order water instead of alcohol.

I never have more than three drinks while I am working. I bring about three bottles of water to work with me during my shifts and go back in the DR to gulp that stuff down. I also nurse my drinks for at least an hour. Eating cranberries everyday also helps keep UTI's away (alcohol can bring them on due to dehydration and it helps support the liver. I eat dried ones w/ yougurt/cereal and bring a mix of nuts and cranberries to work and stash little bags in my purse).

I also carry my drink around with me, so if a custie asks to buy me a drink, I tell him I want to finish mine first or I trade the unfinished one for a new one and sip that for an hour.

I'm the same way at parties also, only I don't bring the bottles of water with me.

Bella, your doing a great job. Your boredom can only lead to creativity and it looks like it's already working. Eventually, this could lead to meeting people who are just as creative and don't need to drink lots to have fun.

Great and timely thread. Following this past weekend's expensive debauchery, I'm back on the straight & narrow myself. Self-medicating to get over the hideous winter months is not wise. So I'm going cold-turkey, getting back to the gym, and dumping 15lbs before I set foot in a SC again.

Good luck to everybody who had come to the same conclusion and is trying to change bad habits.

Maybe you could start working out or working out more in the evenings? That will give you something to do and help you loose weight.

I stopped drinking at work December 2nd. I'll still have a drink if I go out to dinner or a couple when I'm hanging out with friends (which isn't that often). I was drinking straight for 8 hours at work and driving home. Luckily nothing ever happened but I don't want to take that chance.

Have you thought about going to AA? I only say this since you want to drink when you're alone or bored. Maybe you find support there.

    Good luck!

AA? That's a little extreme. I'm okay with the not drinking. It's just a matter of getting used to having a different routine. As the days go by, I'm actually starting to feel better about myself (looking in the mirror and seeing the improvement in my weight and skin helps, too... althought it's possible that I'm just imagining them.). I'm just used to having fun a different way... Last night, I realized that Anime seems to keep me entertained. Cooking and stuff, too... mostly Anime, though. I've also been drinking a TON of tea. Nom nom nom.

yep. you need to come up with stuff to do....

    1. volunteer-- any soup kitchens around that serve dinner? (trying to target the night hours.)
    2. any talks or free art shows at night? (sometimes whole foods has classes or barnes and noble has lectures.)
    3. any money making stuff you can do at night? any online classes you can take to better yourself that you'd commit to only doing at night?
    4. crafts-- who's birthday is coming up? fuck it, plan for next year's christmas now by doing time intensive art stuff.
    5. what about cooking classes? that way you aren't eating a ton, but you're learning stuff around other people. plus, that's a hell of an ice breaker "oh, I'm taking this class to try to curb my addiction to martini's and sexy strangers. well, maybe only martinis..."
    6. you could always work more, but that can be hard and might be counterproductive if you might be too tempted.
    7. foster an animal if you have the ability. try to put aside two hours each night (or whatever) to play/love'training time with that animal.

Sorry if the AA suggestion was a bit harsh sounding. I've got a few friends in the program and the support link for them is good and strong.

Then it's just a matter of finding something new to occupy your time. Fancy girl had some great suggestions.
