Leaving my admitted personal animus and antipathy towards Hillary aside; there are rational, objective reasons NOT to vote for her if one seriously wants a Democrat President.
She has the highest negatives of any candidate and there are sound political reasons why the Republicans want to run against her and don't want to run against Obama.
The most obvious reason is that Obama polls higher than Hillary both nationally and in key states like Virginia and Missouri that could turn them from their current
"Purple" status to Blue. The latest poll has her trailing McCain 49 to 46 % while Obama beats McCain by the same margin.
No Democrat is going to win without votes from Independents. ( No Republican can do it either.) Hillary's polls among Independents are much weaker than Obama's
Here's the kicker. Obama gets significant REPUBLICAN support. Depending on which poll you look at, anywhere from 10 to as high as 15%. Hillary will NEVER see anything approaching those numbers. He gets ALL of her voters. She does
not get all of his.
The Republicans are divided and demoralized. McCain's probable nomination has
many a "true believer" out on the ledge. Nothing would invigorate and unite them like a Hillary candidacy. There is almost 20 years of negative material that can be dredged up and used against her. More importantly, how can Hillary run against McCain opposing a war she voted for. Obama has been relatively gentle in chiding her for her pro-war vote. McCain won't be.
Serious change requires a serious electoral win. Social Security was passed because FDR won in a landslide. Medicaid was passed because of LBJ's landslide.
Reagan's tax cuts resulted in part from his electoral vote landslide. If Hillary does win, it will be in a squeaker. Obama has potential landslide written all over him. Even if he splits the undecideds 50-50 he still beats MCain by 3 points- 51.5 to 48.5 but usually the undecideds break 2 to 1 AGAINST the incumbent party.
