Default Starting to work out and sore

I am starting to work out. I have not worked out in years but I would like to be able to look at myself naked and go "not bad" so I am doing it. Anyway I took it easy like the vid said and I feel some warmth on my abs and back so before it gets to be real sore or anything anyone have any recommendations on what to do?

    thank you.

Good for you for getting to the gym. Its hard some day. It'll help you feel better inside and out too.

A good stretch session or yoga will help them from feeling stiff. Ibuprofen can help too. Or a light cardio session will help lessen the soreness.

    * Hot Epsom salt baths- buy it in bulk and pour half of the carton in.

    * Massage- helps force lactic acid buildup out of your muscles...YOU MUST drink water after massages or you will feel very sick.

    * Bannanas or other potassium rich, good carb foods (potatoes work too)

    * Protein after workouts- Muscle Milk is the easiest way to do this

    * Start slow- if you hurt yourself by forcing the issue, you will just mess up the whole opportunity to get healthier

    * If Ibuprofen doesn't work for you, try Aleve (naproxen) the gel-caps act very quickly

    * Check out for more info

Make sure to get in a good stretch once your muscles warm up, and when you're done with your workout. And don't let soreness stop you from hitting the gym the next day, the workout will help with the pain! Unless of course it's pain in excess, you shouldn't be so sore you can't do a mild workout. But that soreness is lactic acid built up in your muscles. The best way to get it out is to work it out!

Thanks! I actually was eating hot wings in bed, I know sad and pathetic and I saw this work out thing of a 90 day challenge and said "that is it! I am doing it!" so I got it.

I even got up at 6:30, the house was quiet and the kids and hubby sleeping, the dog looked at me like wth are you doing and the cat kept trying to play with my feet while I did push ups lol

The cool thing is today was back, chest and tomorrow it's something else called... Plyometrics and then the next day it's shoulders and arms and then the next day it's yoga and it keeps going. I am 28, 2 kids and miscarried so my body is not horrid but my ass and abdomen could be tighter. I want to meet the FL gals and look good, if I get to meet them on the 4th of July lol

Lengthen your cool down period. Take a slow walk up and down your street so the lactic acid travels out of your muscles. Deep breathing and drink the 8 large glasses of water a day.

    BTW great job

    Thanks.

I just got back from the grocery store and got some Soy yogurt, epsom salt and tons of healthy foods, like fresh fruits and veggies and soy protein bars. Also Oatmeal, I hate it but they say it's good for you.

This day one but I am really excited. The vid is very cool and the guy sets goals and he asks the other people "what is your goal for this session" for a push up part and they are like "25, 30, 33" and then he says "you?" and I was like "5!" lol I haven't done one in so long I was even pushing 5!

Now I am also doing this to help with my depression and my husband was supposed to join me but he did not want to get up so oh well! I think I want this mentally more than anything because I want this damn depression to go down. When I went to PR on vacation I got a lot of "oh but poor you, you have no tits" and this is from family so next time I go I want to say "you see this? this firm ass? kiss it!"

I admire you guys so much, part of it is being inspired by such beautiful people here. I noticed something that was just amazing, you guys are drop dead gorgeous and are far less judgemental on peoples body image than any other place I visit, I love that about you guys! So thank you.

The soreness lessens and often disappears once you get used to training. In the meantime, take rest days when you're sore and maybe get a massage. Also be sure to have a recovery snack within an hour of finishing training. Something with both protein and carbs is good, like yogurt, a milk or protein drink, cheese and crackers or fruit and peanut butter. This helps your muscles begin the process of repair.

EDIT- Just saw that dairy's no good for you. You can always use soy alternatives to the dairy foods I've suggested.

Hooray! Good for you! My advice is simply, work through it--it should stop really soon if you are on 6 days already! But if you are going for months w/o feeling any soreness, then it's time to increase.
