    Default more freaking cat problems

how the heck am i supposed to keep her from chewing on wires? there's the cable from my tv running behind my desk, plus all my computer wires and plugs. they hang down, so theres no way to cover them up. she chewed almost all the way through the plug for my house phone, and i'm gone all day and all night 3 days a week so its not like i can watch her.

what am i supposed to do? this is getting ridiculous. my mom's bright idea was the spray paper towels with that bad tasting spray for animals and TAPE THEM AROUND my wires. because i really have HOURS to do that, and its soo possible . there are a ton of wires hanging and um that isnt really a reasonable solution.

thats what my mom was talking about spraying on a paper towel and taping them on there. but how can i spray that on wires? wont it mess up the wires? i mean, i think its kinda hard to cover the wires with something you spray..

Cover the wires in aluminum foil. Cats HATE that stuff and will avoid it.

I don't know exactly why they hate it..I just know that they don't like to walk on it, or claw it...so I assume they wouldn't like to eat it either. I think they don't like the way it feels on them.

    or..you can get this

It's a clear plastic molding that you cover wires with so they can't be chewed

Is your cat teething? bored? Have you tried distracting her with other toys/food she can chew on/play with instead?

get your cat a cat crate and make it comfortable for her, you can get big ones now with enough room to put a kitty litter tray, a nice comfortable bed and anything else your cat likes - you should be able to pick up a second hand one for $150 (I am talking a steel 1.5mtr by 1.5mtr + sized crate) or new for about $400 (these are AUD figures, so I am unsure what it would cost you in USA) Also, have a look at the dog crates - they are bigger also and probably more readily available

she has no reason to be bored. she and my other cat play all the time, and i cant exactly distract her when i'm gone at work all day. like i said, 3 days a week im gone all day at my day job, and then all night at the club. she has plenty of toys and food.

I guess that is your decision, but personally if my cat was putting her life in danger by chewing power cords, I would see no problem in crating her

My husky has a whole house to run around and is more then welcome to share my bed any time, but he prefers to sleep in his crate, with the door open, so at any time he can get up and move around, generally at 10pm his in his crate and doesn't come out until the morning- it creates a sense of security for him, and after working at a animal shelter and pet resort, I found that cats preferred to sit in their hid-ie holes then in the open

Each to their own I guess

My cats also like to sleep or hide in small spaces..and they love my puppy's crate. ( which actually used to be one oif their cat carriers)
But...She said she is gone all day and all night..that's to long to leave a cat confined. Or any animal.
Even in a large crate that was big enough for them to move around...espicially if the cat is playful, it would go nuts being in a small space for to long.
Sure, safety matters..but there are other options to explore before going to that extreme. If it were for a short period of time, t wouldn't matter so much, but for all day and all night...I wouldn't even want to leave my cat locked in the bathroom or something. They like and need to run around and play. Espicially because indoor only cats don't have all that much room to exercise, they need as much freedom as possible, in my opinion anyway.
I leave my puppy crated at night and when I'm at work, but never ever longer than 6 hours at a time. But he likes his crate..it's like his den. Cats...they may like small hiding spots, but they wouldn't want to be confined and locked in with no way out. Cats are finicky.

If it came down to either lock the cat up or it will die chewing on wires, sure, crate is better...but there are other options to expore first before going to such an extreme.

I dunno...I am very overprotective and cautious of my babies to, so I can see where Britt is commig from.

^ yeah, im gone like 7-3, then 730-2ish again, on mon/wed/fri. im definately not leaving her in a crate! plus i have 2 and the first one is TERRIFIED of his carrier, and i cant crate one and not the other. im not putting him through that trauma. i'd rather find a way that works for my animals without doing that to them. i mean, i absolutely won't do that to them. theyve been fine all this time, its not like theyre going to die all of a sudden now.

Well, as a temporary measure you could unplug any cord that is not behind furniture or under something. I once had found one of my cats dead with an electric cord between his little teeth, so it is not something to put off dealing with.
