Default Compiled List of SLS-Free shampoos and conditioners

Once upon a time, on the long hair community, there was a very long list of every shampoo and conditioner out there that was SLS-Free.

I cannot access that website right now and get to the list.

    Does anyone have this list???

I know white rain was on it... that's all I can remember. ha.

It is a list of SLS free isn't it? Cone Free = SLS free, no?

I'm not sure what's up with the long hair community. It's giving me some error. I found another long hair forum but it's predominately African American women.

ETA: These are all conditioners from what I can tell. I'm not ready to do conditioner washes only.

So... anyone have any suggestions for SLS Free Shampoos that I can buy at a drug store. Not looking to spend a lot of money as I'm unemployed right now.

no, cones are different from sls.

sls is a surfectant and cones are a lubricant.

well, sls is just a detergent, it's what makes your shampoo all bubbly and foamy. Supposedly there can be health risks associated with it, but I'm not really aware of any negative effects on my own body. I do believe it strips color more quickly and makes highlights turn brassy which is why I try to avoid it or at least only shampoo every other day.

You can certainly get one without the other. SLS is typically listed towards the beginning of the ingredient list. Cones are usually towards the end. Basically, anything ending in "cone" ie: silicone, dimethicone etc. I'm not aware of cones being "bad" for you I guess they might cause buildup over time.

^I think Cherry_Sin makes her own shampoos and conditioners. I was going to buy some when I got back from vacation and I totally forgot all about it!

Remember, Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate is okay... you want to avoid SL sulfate.

Silicone finds the weakened parts of the hair cuticle and when heated from styling, melts to seal the weak spots resulting in smooth, shiney looking, soft feeling hair.

Whether or not silicones are bad for you depend on the other ingredients in your shampoo, conditioners, and styling products... if you're using stuff filled with salts, alcohol, and other cheap fillers, silicone will seal in those damaging ingredients. If your products are filled with essiential oils and other beneficial ingredients, the 'cones will seal those in and help your hair.

Is truth, Mia? I have been using a geat sls-free/cone free hair system, oil treatments, washing infrequently, really babying my hair. Those anti-frizz silicone serums used to make my hair look perfect, but I'm scared to use them. It would be ok?

^^^ as a professional, I trurely beleive silicones are beneficial to the hair as long as it's used with quality ingredients in shampoos and conditioners. However, pure 'cone products like shine and frizz serums can build up on the hair just like any other styling product... an effective and easy solution is to simply use a clarifying shampoo when you feel your hair looks limp or it just won't style as easily as usual. I like Matrix Logics Clarifying Shampoo and PureOlogy's PurifyShampoo in thier Essientials Sysytem... both will remove build up without stripping color. You may also want to look into a higher quality silicone shine/frizz product like PureOlogy's Shinemax or Phytologie's Phyto Pro Ultra Shine Cream... both use better silicones that will not build up as easily on the hair and pair the silicones with essiential oils.

Miss Taylor, I use primarily PureOlogy for my haircare products (SLS and salt free, botanical based line for color treated hair) and Redken styling products. I'm a reformed Redken slut, I used to use all Redken, all the time.

Bought some PureOlogy today. Even though I just washed yesterday, I washed today because I was so eager to try it. My hair looks great after just blow drying it. Now if I could get it to look great with out blow drying, i'd be set.

    Sorry - OT but

Speaking of RedKen. I just bought Anti-Snap and its helping with my brittle hair. What do you think of the rest of the Extreme line?

I read the ingredients and didn't see any silicone. I got the Ancient Tribal Rejuvenating Cleanser and conditioner and a little jar of their restorative treatment paste. If you like warm nutty smells, you will enjoy this.

I reccomend Anti Snap and CAT Treatment to all my highlight clients... CAT is awesome! It's a liquid protein you use up to 3X a week after you shampoo and before you condition, Anti Snap you can use as a daily leave-in for moisture and protein.
