Default What side effects from SSRI's have you experienced?

I have been on SSRI's for years. I've been on anafranil and luvox amongst some others and I am researching the side effects from luvox right now amongst them many have reported:

    - headaches
    - dizziness
    - sweating including night sweats
    - nausea
    - anxiety

I have experienced all of these side effects and there were many more listed by other people. So I am thinking of changing my medication and it would be very useful if others could share their experiences with certain SSRI's. I understand that everyone's experience will be different but some side effects are really common.

I was on Paxil 20mg. Increased appetite. I gained just over 20lbs in two months. Also, I completely lost my sex drive. I was a wild horny teen before and then nothingness. From 60 to 0 in one pink pill. I didn't even want my bf to touch me nor did I even think about sex.

Not fun. At least I was a teen and it melted off as soon I was off the med. Thats my experience.

oh wow. yeh zoloft i was on very briefly but the dry mouth was too severe so i had to stop.

has anyone ever heard of serotonin syndrome? apparently people who are on SSRI's can get it and it makes you really sick. i should stop looking things up on google i start to get paranoid and hypochrondriasis.

Hell on earth, does that count?

You know, as much as i'd hate to admit it, for poetic reasons if nothing else, but prozac worked best pour moi. But of course, it was not without it's faults.
I've been on so many i forget which were ssri's, I believe effexor xr is? That was the worst, horrible horrible, all of the above (except weight gain, but i didn't eat anyways) and brain flashes, oh. my.god. The complete lack of feeling and emotion was scary, I just didn't care, about anything, that was not cool, not cool at all.

When I took Lexapro, I felt nausious for a couple of weeks. Other than than, I haven't had any side-effects with any of them.

I totally get that. I have this stupid embarassment about admitting that I take Prozac specifically (and even just roll off 'fluoxetine' when I know the person is gonna be all judgemental). Prozac is the pop-culture representation of a medicated society, which is somewhat silly, since it doesnt even do much if you're not serotonin-deficient.

Anyways, side effects that I've experienced:

    Prozac: reduced appetite
    Zoloft: complete personality change
Serzone: temp blindness, blurry vision, constant tiredness
    Paxil: headaches

Effexor. Night sweats, insomnia, brain zaps and obliterated short term memory. Like, I'd get in the car and drive a couple of blocks and completely, totally forget where I was going. Or walk into rooms and forget why I was there. Like, all day sometimes, just wandering about.

The discontinuation syndrome has been compared, unfavorably, to withdrawing from heroin.

I took Prozac as a teenager. It killed my sex drive. But getting off of it was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I felt like a druggy.

These cover a variety side effects from a number of different perscriptions over the years. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Currently on Cymbalta (60mg/daily) and no problems.

    Fuzziness
    Dry mouth
    Insomnia
    "Speedy" feeling
    Anxiety
    Forgetfulness (short-term memory)
A body rash (that was miserable and scary)

Update: Effexor made me very unhappy, anxious and getting off of it was a bitch...

And, by far the worst: NO libido!

    Let's see...I've done a ton of different SSRI's...

    Prozac-Dry Mouth
    Paxil-Dizziness, Tiredness, Low Sex Drive
    Celexa-Tiredness and Appetite Loss
    Lexapro-It didn't do anything
Zoloft-I was crazy aggressive and just a mean bitch in general
    Luvox-Dry Mouth
    Cymbalta-Tiredness

I still take Prozac along with other stuff, but I get dry mouth like it's going out of style.

When I took Lexapro, for the first few weeks it made me tired as hell--I'd sleep 20 hours a day sometimes. It also made my appetite nonexistent, and some dry mouth.

I took prozac and didn't have too much trouble. It seemed for the first week or so my depression got worse and I was more anxious but once it passed I was doing better than before I started. Same story when I stupidly went off and on it.

Celexa makes me tired and not hungry all the time. Buspar (not sure if it's an ssri) made me really sweaty for a couple of weeks. Effexor made me freak out.

Paxil: weight gain, dizziness when standing too quickly

Effexor XR: night sweats, feeling "out of it or disconnected", unability to get frightened (maybe because it's anti-anxiety), constipation, dry mouth

    Wellbutrin: weight loss, panic attacks

You can get the serotonin syndrome from mixing the wrong meds with SSRI's or mixing things like 5 HTP or St. Johns Wart with SSRI's. My pharmacist told me you'll definately know if you get it.

oh I hate restless legs syndrome it's very distressing.

Thanks so much everyone for answering, im trying to get an idea of which ones people seem to tolerate more than others.

I forgot the tiredness in my list of symptoms, i can be awake for 3-4 hours and feel like i need to sleep again. Thats very frustrating. Im not sure if my libido is affected by luvox, i think it's more affected by the pill because i noticed a huge improvement when i went off the pill a while back.

Most of them made me gain weight. Prozac was a fluke for me, the two times I was on it, I became intensely violent towards others.

I have been on fluoxetine for years because it's the best option for me despite side effects.
Night sweats are inconvenient but I cope. No loss of libido (actually an increase over my "normal" depressed self) but makes it much harder to orgasm, which is not an insurmountable problem as I once thought.
Citalopram had few noticeable side effects for me but also had very little effect generally so I gave it up.
I was on venlafaxine for a very short amount of time and got off it pronto due to extreme dizziness.

Yeah, I never had a serious libido problem except for when I was on the pill.
