Default A feature told me about working in Thailand

Just wondering if anyone can tell me about this--
a feature told me that American dancers can do well dancing clean
    in Thailand.

She was talking about a contract, but I'm interested in finding a place to
    working sometime over my vacation.

Considering most of the clubs are actually brothels...and 90% of the local dancers have HIV...

A friend of mine lives there...he would NEVER suggest a girl go there to work!

^^Not only are most of the clubs brothels...a great majority of the girls who work there are enslaved. Thailand has one of the highest concentrations of women in the current slave trade.

Your friend is so very mistaken.

I've been to Thailand for extended trips, and know the country pretty damn well. To put it mildly, your friend is full of BS. Hope you heed our advice and don't end up in a crappy situation.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever met anybody that thought going to Thailand to dance was a good idea. That feature, whoever she is, was lying through her teeth.

Odds of a good dancing experience are as good as in Saudi, I'd say.

Some guy was trying to tell me this the other night. That they're "speak easy's" or something. It's not even really stripping, you just have dinner and talk. Girls make 1-4k a night and they don't have to do anything.

Yeah I bet this happens in a country thats famous for prostitution.

I know of someone who went to Thailand to do something like dancing.

I guess it didn't end well because her ex-hubby had to borrow money to get her home (emergency.) Naw, not worth it.

Thailand is an extremely impoverished nation. I can't imagine working in a place like that.

Patpong was crazy fun when I was there, I love that little black market style shopping mall. Heh.
Did you ever visit Soi Cowboy while you were there? It's friggn nuts! My condo was just a few blocks away from that and the Skytrain. I saw the oddest "erotic" shows I'd never even dream of seeing (and hope I don't again). I saw the Ping Pong show, the dart show (yes, the girls shoot darts out of their pussys and try to hit balloons. How's that for kegel strength? ) and the "chopstick show".... if I told you about that one, well... you have to see it to believe it. Jaw dropping, but I can assure you once is enough.

What a weird thing to say!

There are certainly places in asia where you can (could) go on contract and make good $$, but they were always places with strong currencies...not Thailand. You're not gonna make much cash earning in baht.

And that's all those girls make is baht. No one tips them on stage. The stage is there as a sort of "look which girls you can take home" sort of deal. Just 10 Thai girls dancing and looking disinterested until some guy points one out and the house mom gets her to sit with him. Most of the house fees are fees you pay the bar to take the girl home with you, and it's usually around 1000-3000 baht (which I think is like 25 dollars, if that). Then the girl gets paid some money for doing whatever service she does, and part of that goes to the bar as well. If you do a search on Bangkok's red light district, a lot of this is explained quite well, came in handy before I went to Bangkok.

I went there for one week with $700, which is more than many of those girls make in a year. Consider that.

^^^ that number could be similar to the african numbers, where the symptoms of common tropical diseases were taken as AIDs by doctors and reporters not familiar with years of living and praciticing medicine in such climes. so in africa, high rates of AIDs are claimed simply off symptom lists that kindasorta match when those symptoms show up in americans/europeans diagnosed with AIDs. but what is rare in those areas thus and likely to actually be AIDs is not rare in other parts of the world with light access to antibiotics and cheap meds americans take for granted.

street prostitutes on drugs don't have comparable AIDs rates to thailand and western african nations despite being a roughly equivalently high-risk population, and that is because in the latter instances, nobody's even got the resources to actually look for HIV-- they can only go by symptoms.

I have family in Pattaya and every club (go go bar) consists of girls walking, not dancing, around on table with little number buttoned to their pushed-aside bikini tops, if a custy sees a girl he wants to fuck he goes and checks if her number is available on a blackboard in the corner.

I love Thailand for many reasons, but I would never ever work there.

I read one sc experience where the girls had numbers around their necks, like 10, 14, 12. It turned out those were the girls' ages.

I am utterly floored that someone would have told you that, and that you've never heard of the things everyone's been saying!

Still I'd like to see a source wher 90% of dancers in a particular country have AIDS and not just the general populace. I mean, we really don't think it's fair when people judge strippers as a whole, so just because they're in a country unable to defend themselves against stereotypes with no actual factual sources, we shouldn't be saying they all have diseases. My opinion.

I do know a girl (A British backpacker) who made 'good' money in Thailand. She started out as an escort for a high end mamasan. I think she got in the region of $200-$300 US a night. After 12 months of this she became a hostess or mamasan of sorts and starting earning commissions of up to $1000 US a night.

She certainly did some hard yards to get that mamasan position though

My estimation was quoted by the friend of mine who used to own a strip club here and now runs a dance hall/brothel there.

I actually called him on Skype last night to check a few things...and this is his take.

Prior to his taking over the establishment...the club was known for rampant HIV and HEP spread. AS MOST BROTHELS THERE ARE.

His experience has shown that 90% of the women he has come to his club to work are not only prostitutes but DO test positive for HIV and HEP.

He deals with North American clients...and has decided to require testing now....as they DO have screening available in Thailand.

Ages of girls are hung around their necks, or written on their chest.

He also told me that alot of the girls who are diseased are under the age of 15. If you are over 19...no one will hire you, as you are too old...clean or not. Some of the younger ones actually believe that they can GIVE their disease away to a man, and that they will no longer be sick. So when prostituted, they will remove the condoms or not use them at all in hopes to give away the sickness.

This is the main reason he chose to change the format of his club....he supplies condoms, and screenings are paid for for this staff.

I am sorry to have assumed it was AIDS...when in fact it was HIV and Hepatitis.

    Regardless.

The clubs in that country are brothels...women are bought and sold.

If that is something you choose to do, do it! I am sorry for giving my opinion and the statements from a Thailand club owner. After 2 years...he is still looking for clean girls...he has a few, but they are few and far between....but there are still prostitues.

If you do know of a dancer there WITHOUT HIV or HEP...PLEASE let me know...He is looking for CLEAN LOCAL dancers.

One thing I will never ever understand about guys is their willingness to have unprotected sex with complete strangers. Especially prostitutes in third world countries with limited medical facilities and safesex awareness.

Sometimes I wonder who is stupider, the girls who let them, or the guys that do it. I've spoken to guys in SCs here in Australia who have come back from Thailand bragging about all the things they did and for how little they paid for it. Like it's somehow amusing to give a girl so little. Oh and the theories about how its only the Katooeys and the ones with needles marks who have HIV.

Yeah right, dickhead. It's probably any girl who is willing to have sex with YOU without a condom for $X that has an STD. The girls who insist on using them are probably the clean ones. How do guys not get that? Does there desire to get their dick wet really overpower their brain that much??!

Hah, they're always the guys who try and get you to have sex with them after hours too.

my point is that the '90 percent' statistic is not reflective of actual HIV rates for dancers, or anyone else in that country. The small amount of actual testing done in some african countries shows way lower rates than the horror-show stuff reported for the last decade plus.

as i noted, the most comparable in terms of risk american demographic of sexworker doesn't have a 90 percent HIV infection rate. so it's simply unlikely that number is a real measure of anything except assumptions that 'third world women don't use condoms ever if they sell sex'.

the whole topic of assumptions about AIDs and third world countries is a pretty enlightening one. all those high estimates are basically not reliant on testing for HIV, but claiming HIV based on symptoms or diseases that are common to those countries (but which would indicate HIV infection in america or western europe, where they are very rare).

conditions suck enough for thai adults and children in that work unwillingly without assumptions that they all have AIDs from the work.
