Default vaginal discharge, what is normal?

    What is normal?

Is it normal to have some sort of discharge every day?

I have always had a daily discharge - not smelly, just clear-whittish.
I hate it, I wish one day my panties could just be clean at the end of the day.

Because I have always been like that I have never really known if other people were the same??

I am in the same boat. But I am a horny mofo. lol You?
    I know, TMI.

    Eta:

Didnt mean to imply that I have a lot of discharge only cause I am horny. (D'oh!) I mean when I AM horny, there is a lottttttt of it. But it varies throughout the month. When I am ovulating, it is serious. LOL I know when to stay away from sex.

But generally speaking, I do have lots... it just gets worse as the cycle changes.

That's actually proof of good health- a healthy vagina "sweats" (sorry for the mental picture, but your body has to clean itself.)

What is normal for one girl can totally vary from what is normal for the next girl. I've asked my gyno this before and they said some girls just always have a heavier discharge. As long as there is no sudden change in what is normal for you, it's all good.

I'm the same way. And when I'm ovulating, it's worse--like the consistency of egg whites.

    ^^^that's highly fertile-quality cervical fluid.

even if you don't chart your cycles, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" has a giant full color section describing and showing healthy cervical fluid and the different types (there are several healthy kinds, which are classed by whether they are 'infertile-quality' or 'fertile-quality'). the book can be found in most megabookstores, and of course amazon. it's worth just looking in the full-color section to find out about the kinds of healthy cervical fluid.

also the book explains what it means if you are 'always wet down there'. there's a number of circumstances.

i mention this book a lot, but it's a very comprehensive text on the human female reproductive system written for a normal, non-medical audience. it explains so many things that are commonly considered mysteries, like WHY you might get your period and still be pregnant, or why some women just 'walk by a guy and then they're pregnant'. and of course, why some women are 'always wet down there'. it's just really informative, even if you don't decide to track your cycles.

many of the questions that get asked in body business and LO are actually answered in detail in this book. it's just great to have all the information there.

i sound like a darned commercial, but it's just that packed with real and useful information about our female, womanly bodies.

Oh my goodness. I thought I had heavy discharge...until I got pregnant. It's like 100 times worse now! I was standing in our room talking to my husband a few nights ago and all of a sudden I felt a lottt come out. My panties felt so wet (and I was so far from being even a little bit horny; trust me). My husband asked me if I had peed my pants. Boo.

i am going to mention some details from this book for anyone wondering about their discharge (aka cervical fluid or cervical mucus) if they have discharge frequently or daily-- you can always look up the exact quotes in the book for free at any bookstore to verify or i can scan in the relevant pages on request:

Some women have a standard pattern (outside of their 1-5 'fertile quality' cervical fluid days) of 'sticky' cervical fluid. It can be kinda gummy or crumbly, drying quickly.

Other women are 'creamy' day after day or even 'eggwhite-clear'. If it's frequent or daily, it can mean a thyroid issue, high estrogen, an ovarian cyst, or even PCOS. Also, stress! Your body will keep getting ready to ovulate and then...not, since clearly the stress indicates it's not the time to release an egg.

i think we can all agree that sometimes stripping is pretty high-stress. and even low-key but constant stress or strain can get subsumed into your general cycle and become part of what your body 'expects' each cycle.

anyway, there is an entire section just on cervical fluid variances, which i would scan in and post somewheres along with the color pictures of said fluid if it wouldn't violate fair use.

and just as a general principle-- if it's red or white or clear, it's probably ok (the red is residual spotting). if it's yellow or, uh, some other color, not so much.

the exception is white clumpy, not white creamy.

the key thing to understand is that most of the time, our girl-goo is NOT related to our level of horniness. and that sexual arousal-girlgoo is in fact relatively short-lived in comparison. mostly it's goo related to our cycle, or our bodies trying to get back into a pattern following childbirth or some other major event.

wow thanks, that is excellent info. That book sounds great.

I have noticed different discharges - fluid depending on the time of the month. Even though i skip periods i would still go thru the cycle i'm sure.
I have experienced prob all of them - creamy, gooy, crumbly hehe.

Is it kind of sticky in consistancy right now? You tend to have clear/white when you ovulate, it looks like egg whites.

    I'm sober now. Revising post.

Your vagina will always have discharge as this is healthy. Yes, some will collect in your panties, but if it bothers you, soak your panties like you would for blood stains and wash them. But don't wear pantyliners or anything to soak it up because it creates a warm, damp environment with no place for the heat to escape (plastic liner backing). It can create infection. Just let it go. There is nothing wrong with discharge in your panties. As a matter of fact, it is a good sign that the works are properly working.

That really makes sense, never actually put 2 + 2 together....thanks! In other words, I'm healthy as a horse. What a terrible analogy.

Yep, the vagina is a self cleaning organ. Therefore, the discharge you described is normal.

I feel ya, drives me crazy when I get gooey and smelly. And when I started dancin it REALLY drove me nuts, so, I finally went out and bought some douche. But, having heard that douche was bad, I emptied out the solution and just rinsed with water instead. I found it really refreshing and helpful even though I just used water, and still do it whenever I bathe.

I have a lot of discharge too. Nothing smelly, but sometimes (sorry to be gross) when I go to the bathroom I'll look down and there will be like a whole bunch coming out. Hard to describe what I mean, but it's a lot sometimes.

Not gross, very normal. Every woman has discharge, and the pantyliner people should go to hell for making women feel ashamed of their normal bodily functions. Just 'charge in your panties, that's what they're there for.

    Discharge = clean, lovely vagine.

I am glad I came across this thread. I thought there was something wrong with me but I am just healthy About the white discharge, that would explain me being so fertile.
