    Default RIP, Polaroid Land Camera

Polaroid has announced it's ceasing production of its instant film, which will become unavailable after 2009. The company stopped making cameras a year ago.

What will I do when I need more film my three Polaroids? What will all those people buying new Polaroid cameras do?

How do I get my picture taken at the clubs with those sexy stripper wenches? For dollars. If I ever want to--I haven't yet.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

Why has no one made a modern style Polaroid camera? All you need is a digital camera and a printer. Just have to make it portable.

ugh don't get me started, that gonna effect a lot of people here where polaroid had a plant....like allot of companies, they just never kept up with the times.

They said they would like to sell the manu. plans on the film to another film company, but, most poeple doubt that will happen.

Yeah that is a great point. It sucks when companies do not think to keep up with the times until it is too late. I hope that the employees losing their jobs soon will be able to rebound and recover quickly. Layoffs suck big time.

Do they still have camera girls in the Las Vegas clubs? You know, they come around to the tables and take pictures of couples and sell them to them?

I would think Polaroid would be a lot better than digital for those people who aren't with the partner they are supposed to be with, and would prefer that this fact not end up on the Internet.

Yeah, I own a Spectra (I guess the latest model) & was looking for film at Target a few weeks ago...they said they didn't carry it anymore. I just figured it was them, & I'd find the film somewhere else. But, I haven't looked anywhere since.

    Thanks for the link.
We do a lot of photos at clubs. Its good money.
I may try just one of these but I think the photos may be too small.
The prints are the size of a business card. Can’t really charge $10 for that but maybe some will like it for their wallets.
The other down side is it only prints 15 photos per battery charge.

Unfortunately the film has a definite lifetime. So if no mfgr buys the film rights or doesnt come up with a 'clone,' we are out of luck, eventually, at the outside 5 years. I still have a bunch of filmpacks too, but none for my older cameras. Quick, sell them on eBay.

I just went to their website and looked for film; they have many types of filmpacks, but their stock is limited - none of them had more than 1000 shipping units. Might be good to stock up if you use it a lot.

Funny thing is that I bought a Polaroid-branded portable DVD player last year, and the company did sell VHS cassettes. Probably some other things too, but overall they aren't the company they once were. Problem with digital cameras for the usage I mentioned in the OP is that no one wants their image to be left in flash memory (blackmail, family etc.).

It's just progress, or change anyway. Polaroid seemed to lose their ability to innovate when Dr Land died. I'm told it was a pretty innovative company in many ways. I guess they weren't innovative enough to find a good replacement management team beforehand.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Damn, I use tons of Polaroids at work. What the fuck am I supposed to use for all my cheesy customer pics? Really, I'm a fan of charging $20 for a snapshot with me.

Not to worry, gl. Fuji already makes better instant film for Polaroid cameras, plus a Fuji instant camera.

I hate it when they take away staples like that. Kodak recently did the same thing with their slide projectors. The stopped making the last ones, and no longer service them. People still shoot slides all the time. I also remember panicking a few years ago that I wouldn't be able to find 8mm film for the camera and projector I'd bought. How do these people know we won't use these products anymore?

This is sad and weird since only two days ago I was thinking I wanted to buy a polaroid camera as I am one of those lazy people who has hundreds of digital photos on my computer but none printed out.

    Damn you polaroid.

    good to hear about Fuji...

just an idea how f_cked people at polaroid were, they once employed 250,000 people, now they only have 250 full-time staff.

    adapt or die....

When is Gillete going under? No rumors, just cynicism on my part.
