    Default Hypoglycemia ruins my sanity

I'd like to know if anyone else has this problem, to the degree that it affects me. If I don't maintain my blood sugar levels and eat a lot, I become extremely delusional and depressed.. once I start eating like a pig and add a couple extra pounds I am sane again. I don't know how some people live on 1200 calories a day! I would be completely insane. Could this possibly be a chemical imbalance? Is anyone else like this?

This makes it hard to stay under a certain daily calorie allowance, and I always end up overeating. I'm trying to stay under 1500-1800.. and always end up eating 2000 and more.

I want to be skinny again-like 115lbs, I'm 5'6 128 now, but can't figure out how to do it.

    Any advice will be appreciated.

More protein and less carbs will help stabilize your blood glucose levels for a longer period of time. Carbs will run your blood glucose level way up then drop it back down rapidly. It's important to add lots of protein to your diet which include most meats, soy protein, beans and rice and eggs. You should eat smaller meals and eat every three hours. If you consume 7 small meals a day at 200 calories a pop that will put you at 1400 calories and you should lose weight.

I get severely moody, impatient, dizzy, nauseated....so I try to eat 5-6 small meals a day, eating alot of fruits and veggies. Being pregnant hasn't made it any easier!

I can't eat that little ever either. I get dizzy and I cry and feel sick. I have to eat at lot more than any 'diet' would allow, not in servings, but in frequency. When I don't (like recently) I am insane. 128 at 5'6" sounds pretty skinny. Maybe your body doesn't want to function at a lower weight? You need some fat for sugar processing.

I will say I've had better luck eating more 'real' foods: organic stuff instead of frozen meals. Clif Bars instead of PowerBars, actual fruit, etc. Have you cut out HFCS?

Hey I suffer from this too. The key is eating low GI foods regularly. Evenn if you just keep some nuts with you and snack on them throughout the day or night.

I have had to leave work because of this a few times because I have been so nauseated, dizzy etc. Once I thought I had been drugged but someone else recognised the symptoms and told me I needed to eat.

From Roberta's latest best seller "The Do's and Dont's of Hypoglycemia" An Everyday Guide to Low Blood Sugar" ...If you think you may be going crazy; if you have thoughts of suicide; if you're constantly exhausted, anxious and depressed; if you go weeks without a decent night's sleep; if your personality changes like the flip of a coin; if a counter full of munchies doesn't satisfy your sweet tooth; and if your doctor thinks you might be a hypochondriac because medical tests don't show anything physically wrong with you - don't despair, there's hope!

I know I have this too, lots of protein & frequent small meals help me, & I've heard of a book called, "Glycemc Index" . I don't know the author.

It's also helpful to drink PLENTY of fluids throughot your day so those carbs flow steadily. You don't want a punch of sugar and then nothing. It's great to learn to control your stress too. It's helped me over the years so I rarely have the fainting or nervousness of a insulin attack! Steer away from straight sugars as much as you can by having fruit instead. Cut down on rice, potatoes etc. in favor of cauliflower, corn, green beans etc. They hit your bloodstream steadily instead of those others. The flab will fall right off of ya!

Yeah, cut out high-fructose corn syrup, definitely. Eat real food, not packaged chemicals. You might be having problems because your body is craving nutrition, and most Americans don't get adequate nutrition because they eat chemicals and garbage instead of food. You need fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, etc. Read the labels on anything packaged and if you don't know what each ingredient looks like on its own then don't eat it.

I go berserk too when I need to eat, but I find these breakdowns don't really happen anymore now that I eat real food.

Wow. I'm so glad she posted this. This sounds exactly like me. I thought I was doing okay with the kind of healthy vegetarian diet, but apparently I need some changes... If just a change in diet fixes this I will be sooo happy!
