Default What self-defense products do you carry with you at work?

I was wondering what are the best and effective self defence product's for a dancer to carry to work in the case that she had to usae them to defend against an attack. I am working in Ontario, Canada at the present time, and was curious to know if any dancer's have any input on what is legal and effective to carry with you in this area. Some clubs, staff and customer's can be a little sketchy, so just curious to know what works best for other dancer's when you feel the extra need to protect yourself in a given club.

I've never borught anything with me, but I knew dancers that carried knives on them. I don't think this was necessarily legal, but they seemed to think they needed it.
I always concidered my seven inch heels as a weapon, and most guys feel the same way.
Are you talking about in the club or on the way home? I don't drive so I always have a ride home, but I know to hold my key as a knife in case anyone tried to mess with me.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

i'm pretty serious about self defense stuff, so i always have in my purse mace and a personal alarm that reaches unholy decibel levels
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

I carry pepper spray to and from work, but I feel pretty safe in my club. Although, at past clubs I have carried pepper spray or a knife in my purse while I was working.

I carry a 400,000 volt Taser with me. If it were legal to bring my gun into a bar, I'd carry that. Not every club has bouncers that walk you out..and even if they do..nobody is walking me IN. And a lot of clubs are in less then great areas. I"ve never had to use it, but better safe then sorry. I'd rather have it and never use it then need it and not have it.

But laws vary so I dont know whats legal in your area. And if you are going to carry something...be sure that 1) you know how to use it and 2) you are sure you will be able to if needed. NO use having a weapon you are untrained on or scared to use...that just makes it easier for your attacker to get it and use it against YOU.

I was going to make this post.

Currently I don't carry anything but a couple Xmases ago my dad got me this ridiculously strong mace or pepper spray or something. It's a bit bulky but I should start carrying it on me.

I mean in the club , in some clubs the bouncer's and management cant be trusted,...so Im generally referring to when ur in a club and you want to carry something on you in case you need to use it if someone tries to pull something.

Cameron, are tasers legal? cause if they are i want one, Punkpixie: i got it on ebay and it was called a personal alarm, and the louder the better, and i got some super police strength mace as well, and it's been traveling with me all over the world, they never catch it at security (except in london when i got arrested for carrying it -so don't bring it to england)

I wouldn't work at a club where I feel like I have to carry something with me while I was working. To and from the car is another matter.

Tasers and guns aren't legal in Ont, so those are out (I considered a taser anyways, but fuck if I'll be sued by some ass that tried to rape me).

So that leaves personal alarm, pepper spray, and 'other'. I used to carry pepper spray, until the time came that I actually had to use it, and it was totally lame and ineffective...maybe it was just the brand I got, but it didn't...spray....it just kind of peed out the nozzle. I don't know how I was supposed to direct it anywhere.

So I use 'other', which is convenient, a deterrent, and hopefully would be effective if I had to use it: I've made it habit to always hold my keys with the ring in my palm and one key between each finger, so that if I had to punch someone, it would gouge them good. But really it just sort of shows that I'm on my guard and willing to fight. Deterrent.

I don't feel like it's necessary to pack heat or weapons inside a club. Security is there for a reason and I wouldn't work anywhere I didn't feel protected and safe. Your best bet is to learn some defensive moves instead and know what places on a man's body can really hurt. I carry mace everywhere else I go and when I turn 21, I'm applying for a license to carry.

Yeah but you cant carry it into a club or bar..even with a permit to carry. Not if liquor is served.Or anywhere that has a "no weapons" sign posted.

True, I can take it so far as my car, at this point. But it's still better than nothing.

You should keep it in your garter at the club, like a saloon girl.

True. When I get my new one Ill keep it in the car...I want to keep my current one by my bed. Hubby keeps one in his car, one by the bed and usually one on him unless we are going to a bar

But the Taser is classified as a non-lethal weapon so I can carry that anywhere! And 400,000 volts will take down pretty much anyone and give me time to get away.

I considered carrying my blackjack too..its smaller so I can fit it right in my waistband

It's required at my club to carry these club-issued money boxes, which are actually small Caboodles with handles and a slot in them. I suppose if it were necessary, I could whack someone really hard with it...that probably wouldn't happen, though because we have really good security.
