    Default MSOffice- like shareware

My trial of Office 2007 just expired . I'd normally be fine just using wordpad, but one of my profs has a thing for graphics-rich doc files.

I've used OpenOffice in the past, but have also had two unfortunate lose-half-my-data-randomly incidents with that software. I need something reliable and low-key to open doc files that have fancy stuff embedded.

Oooooor...if you have a product reg code to share... pm me!

    Thanks!

Edit: Ugh, sorry I missed that part about using OO before. No idea how I did but I did. They've been working on cross platform interoperability so who knows maybe it's better now?

Hmm... I probably have a code for Office 2000 here somewhere...? I know I have one for XP Pro at work...

Google Documents can open Office 2007 files, I believe. It's free 'n' stuff to try, anyway.

Can you also edit in them or is it read-only, Lunar?

I tried to open my Office 2007 (docx) files in Google documents, to no avail.

Student edition of MS office may be your best way out if you only need word and excel.

I've heard good things about ThinkFree.com. It's a web based productivity suite that is free.

Being web based, there's no installation to worry about, and theoretically there should be no danger of losing your saved documents.

    Here it is:

^ All my documents are given in .docx format, which is office 2007.

But hey, look what I found: http://www.theultimatesteal.ca/eligibility2.asp

^^Act now, even if you can find student edition retail it is 128 us, and that is just for Word, Excel, and I think Power point. Ultimate would have all the stuff including access if I remember correctly.

Sorry about the dead end with Google Documents! I would've bet that it could open it but didn't double-check before posting. My bad.

If you can get a (cheap) older version of Office, like 2003, there is a converter pack that will convert the .docx files to the older format, and it's available here.
