Default How old when you had your first memory?

The earliest age that you can now remember back to. Or at least now remember remembering back to your first memory.

This has been an interest of mine for as far back as I can remember. I think it has something to do with brain development.

I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

Not until I was five or so. But then, I've repressed the majority of my childhood, so I have very few memories to begin with.

I didn't vote because my first memory is prior to 12 months; I was still crawling and couldn't walk.

    About 22 months.

I can remember going with my father to stay at a strange house.

When I asked him about it many years later he said we were staying with friends while my mother went into hospital to give birth to my sister.

I was a little over a year old and John F Kennedy was assinated. My mother cried her heart out, it was a pretty big thing and for some reason it stuck. That was back in the day when president's still had respect. Wow I'm old.

I was somewhere between 1 and 2 years old. I remember my grandmother carrying me all the time and fighting with my older cousin a lot.

I have vivid memories of climbing onto the mah jong tables at my grandparents' social club to sing songs to everyone that date back to when I was still in diapers. My parents have no idea how I remember these things since I was so little, but I can remember what I wore and the songs I sang!

Mine is under 12 months. I can remember not being able to lift my head and not being able to sit up as a baby amongst other things, so very young. I have heaps of early memories (-:

I think my earliest memory is either having my nappy changed or being bathed. I can remember a bit of detail about both. Being bathed I HATED how cold the water was and especially having it poured over my head for the hair wash. my mum was quite upset when i told her more recently. It was custom to use tepid water for newborns back in the day.
I was small enough to fit on my mums arm - pretty cool to remember that. She washed my hair by holding my body along one arm with my head in her hand over the yellow baby bath. I still to this day hate cold water!
For the nappy change i remember her talking to me and I remember wondering about the pins!

Wow, I had no idea it could be under 12 months. Very interesting. Sorry I didn't add an item for that. I hope we get a lot of hits on the poll. Thanks to those who contributed. I will read the related thread.

Very intense situations like what CrazyBob wrote would probably produce some strong recollection at even a very early age.

Mine was about a birthday party I attended when I was just a head taller than their bed. And then no more memories for almost another year. My mom tells me the first occurred at about 1.5 years. For a long time I thought it was a year later. It is a lot more vague now than I remember it to have been years ago, but the second memory is much stronger; of course I am pretty old. Fortunately my memories of early childhood were all good.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

I was just over 12 months, I remember being on a plane....specifically, getting off and crying a lot while beng held and people cooing at me with baby talk. i never knew it was a memory until I was about 16, when I was informed that my first vacation was when we went to Arizona, just after my 1st bday. It all kinda clicked. I just thought it was a dream I had had.

My first memory was something completely insignificant. I remember going out with my dad one morning to get a newspaper. I must have been about 18 months.

Not long after that we moved about three hours away, but I don't remember a clue about the move. Weird.

I actually remember being on my grandma's bed sucking on my toes! I was about 10 months old. I also remember being potty trained. I oddly retained alot of memories from my wee years.

My first memory is talking to my mom on the phone through plate glass when she was in jail. (My dad got busted for pot and they both went down.) I remember my mom crying, weeping. But I thought it was fun because we were talking on the phone but we could still see each other.

Oddly enough my second memory is visiting my dad. I got to sit on his lap at a table because he was in state pen.

    I was 3 and 4 respectively.

Glad I'm not the only one.....my head was too heavy (no comments please ) so I would crawl around and basically run my head along the rug/carpet, almost like it was a rudder.

I also remember sneaking out of the crib, climbing over the top, scraping my leg, wandering the the stair-way to go downstairs but that damn baby-gate was there and for the life of me i could figure out how to get it undone.

I was a little over a year. I remember my dad holding me with one arm while beating the shit out of my mom with the other. He knew she would not hit back if I was in the way so he thought it was a clever idea.

All my younger years memories are weird things like that. Good times.

I must have a really negative mind because almost all of my early memories--the ones that really stand out vividly and stick with me--are sad.

I remember some stuff from 3 months old. If you think about any experience a lot during your childhood you will remember it 20 years later.

Me too. I can't tell ya much about holidays or vacations or anything like that, but if you need to know about weird fucked up shit that happened when I was little I could write a book. I *know* happy things went on, but I can't remember them to save my life.

It's weird, I'm pretty sure I remember being born. Some people don't think it's possible but it's pretty vivid. I remember being comfortable and a force pulling me towards a light. I wasn't too happy about leaving but once I was in my mother's arms things felt fine and knew I never wanted to be away from her. Then they took me away and I wasn't too thrilled about that. That's what I remember.

I was little, not sure what age but I remember wearing diapers and we had gotten a puppy, a German Sheppard and I would get out of the play pen and when my mom would get the mail I would take the puppy out of the box.
