    Default Cardio question

Hello all! So I've been doing a lot of searches on here about everyone's exercise routines and such, and I've noticed that a lot of you do some form of jogging/running for cardio. I've never been much of a runner, and even after years of soccer I never had the endurance to run more than maybe 1/2 a mile. (And I tried consistently, believe me!) So I was wondering...I walk my dog at an easy pace for about 30 min. every day. Is this a sufficient amount of cardio? I don't ever get out of breath or anything, so I know my heart rate isn't increasing much. (She's an old dog, so we take it slow.) I also dance 3-4 nights a week, which is obviously exercise in itself, but it has actually made it more difficult to exercise on my days off because I'm so exhausted and sore the days after I work. So is this "enough" exercise, or should I be doing more? Also, do you think that if I would just push through the subsequent work pain I would gradually build up enough strength that I wouldn't feel like a train wreck after work?

    Any feedback is awesome! Thanks!

What are you trying to achieve exactly? Are you trying to lose weight or increase fitness or just be healthier?

I do a lot of walking myself, but I make sure I'm power walking and include hills to mix things up a bit. I also try and include a bit of running within my walks.
    Cycling is also good cardio.
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

Whatever cardio exercise you do, you should use HIIT (high intensity, interval training). Google it and use it.

Well, I suppose I'm trying to improve my overall fitness. I don't need to lose weight, although I would like to burn some fat and tone up a bit. Mostly I just want to make sure that I'm getting a good amount of exercise for my health.

Venus, I googled HIIT and it does sound really interesting. Part of the reason I could never get into running was because could never do it for long periods of time, so this sounds perfect. If I were to do a HIIT routine, say, 2-3 times a week would there be a noticeable difference in my body?

Thanks to both of you for responding, btw.

make sure you take potassium and magnesium supplements after you work, and you might want to take msm/glucosamine condroitan. all of these help your muscles and joints regenerate a little and msm is an anti-inflammatory that rocks.

this will help you sleep better, and be able to work out instead of lazing in bed sore the day after work

You would definitely see results. You'd see them faster than if you were doing a cardio routine that was exactly the same every day. With cardio...no matter what you do, if it's constant your body will get used to it and it'll start to have a much lighter effect. You'll still burn calories, but your body is going to work harder to conserve the energy. If you do HIIT for all of your cardio, then you will keep your body guessing. You slow down and then sprint, slow down, sprint. It's impossible for your body to conserve any energy (fat/calories/etc) and it will be forced to burn them.

You should still change up your cardio routine, however, every week.

You can burn more by utilizing HIIT for 20-30 minutes than you could doing the same cardio exercise for 1 hour.

I know when I first started using HIIT, weight lifting, etc. By the second month the fat literally melted off my body. I wasn't in bad shape to begin with, but I had some fat that I just couldn't get rid of. Once I implemented HIIT into my workout, I had no problems.
