    Cool!

There is lots of internet access is guam. The main problem is the humidity and its affect on electronics.

Guam really turned my life around. I was depressed and falling into a lot of postgraduate fears and stripper stereotypes. I got a lot more into reading and introspective exercises while there. Since getting back to the US I've cleaned my room, sold/given away many possessions, gotten an AMAZING job, and started dating a wonderful person. All things benefit of going to Guam. I also feel like I can always escape back there if need be.

tips... it's possible that setting up call forwarding for your phone might work. Get an unlocked phone (buy a sim card in guam) you don't need tooo much -- guam has KMart and whatnot.,.

I am making scary low $$ in ABQ simply bc there are no custys. I'm moving out of this student ghetto apt. where I have not had a working stove since Oct. and it is so cold you can literally see the "smoke" coming out of yr breath in certain spots.

    But...

If you don't have anything nice to say about Guam, I really don't want to hear it. Thank you.
Sounds like an adventure. Be safe and have fun! Just be sure to keep posting on SW!

Shane: Well then, maybe you should think about giving out samples, so everyone gets a taste.
    Blonde: Yeah.

    My helpful suggestions-

make friends with guys in the service (preferably Air Force or Coast Guard officers) you can find someone to room with for probably cheaper than what the club is charging for "dancer housing" They can also pickup groceries for you on base (much cheaper)

KEEP A WRITTEN RECORD OF YOUR EARNINGS AND WHAT THE CLUB IS TAKING OUT OF IT- & Don't get wasted at work. Drink virgin drinks.

Wear a hat- seriously, the sun is so hot you'll get burned on walks

If you open accounts with Bank of Guam, you have to clear them out a few days before you leave- they had a one-transaction-per-day limit when I was there. Get cashier's checks. (If you are carrying a large amount of cash, you have to go through Customs.)

Be polite to the natives & be discreet about your job. Guam is a conservative island.

Thank you so much Ms.MadMax. Was wondering about the last part, some part of me thinks it will be painfully obvious what I'm doing there, just walking around, but I guess I could be a sailor's wife er something, bahaha. Didn't think about the hat, either, def will get one. Def do not plan on getting trashy trashed....I'm doing my best work right now sober, let's hope that carries into a place where I can actually make real money, unlike here.

SuperSweet. They also do straw voting. On that note, I think I read that Guam can make or break the election, (lol, sorta....) I have to vote when there but have to change my party from green to dem first.

We're all excited vicariously for you, at least I am. Maybe you can even scan and email to youself things like passport copies too, that way even if your hiding place gets blown you can get it from the internet cafe.

If your phone works there you should text a SW person every few weeks so we know you're OK! I know most contries use a type of cell phone technology called GSM, whereas the US uses CDMA. Don't know about Guam. Maybe you should just call tmobile or check their website.

Does anyone know if internation text messaging is any more expensive than domestic? I know calls are but no clue about texts.

I thought it was Hawaii that was the spam capital, this Hawaiian girl was always offering me these spam sandwiches and other spam creations during freshman year of college.

Internet access is not a problem in GUam... there was an internet cafe a couple blocks from my apartment. If you check the records, there were a lot of days where I would wake up at noon, go to the cafe, hang out on SW for a few hours and then get ready for work. Just like in Portland

GSM networks are in the USA along with CDMA- like T-mobile is GSM whereas Sprint is CDMA, can't recall all the others... But anyway, I have Tmo and I travel internationally a bit so: they use the 1900 MHz band here in the US, and it appears that's available in Guam as well (http://www.t-mobile.com/internationa...&opts=0&cid=71)

So, I'm betting your cell will work just fine, albeit at $1.35/minute. IMPORTANT THO- call them before you go and have them enable 'Worldclass' service, your cell will just be a paperweight over there till you do.

So it's one where you can rent out the computers, right?

I just spent 45 mins on the phone to get the "approval" needed for my phone to work there---so it'll work but at $1.50 a minute! So I guess I can get a prepaid or something?

Whip it out Wednesday, or what?

Heyy thanks so much for your info Anomar!!

Also, what is this sim card you speak of? Does it mean I can bypass the $1.50/min roaming charge with T-Mobile? I'll just have to get a prepaid if not, that's cool.

Girl, have a blast sounds like you've earned it!

I've only spent two nights in Guam when I had a lay over on my way home from Micronesia (learn to scuba dive if you can!!).

It was an awesome place! Where I stayed it seemed like a Japanese resort at least compared to Micronesia.

Seriously, mad props for living the adventure!

^^Sweet! Thanx, mang. I so can't wait to try out scuba diving, waterskiing, etc. I really hope I can room with some down ass chicks who will go with me, but I know that's hoping hard......any experiences rooming with girls have been downright unbearable for me. That's pretty much my only concern for the trip *wayyyy keeping fingers crossed* Then again, never roomed with strippers, so don'tcha think the odds would be higher that they'd be cool? hehe.

A prepaid phone, or a prepaid card?

I know that in some places when you using a prepaid card, a minute doesn't equal a minute... I first learned this in Costa Rica, where the 200 minute card I had was actually only good for something like 30 minutes. Because for some reason, 1 minute of Costa Rican-U.S. time translated to 7 minutes on the my card... It was so very annoying.

I don't know how guam works with that, but it's probably not the same.

^Lol yes, I remember calling my boyfriend in a different area code when I was 15 for hoursssssss and I saved all the phone cards cuz I tried every single one of em, hey they were sorta pretty. We finally hit on The Penny Card--it was the best! But it made yr voice so low, haha.

I remember them selling prepaid phones in 7-11 awhile back. But you still had to use phone cards, and you paid for every 2 minutes when yr using one...eep.

I usually don't talk on the phone much anywayz, but I have a feeling I'll feel the urge just about every non-work hour, shoo know? Esp. w/o internet all the time! I'll survive, I can be a stripper-buddist-oxymoron.

You can always find cool people to hang out with when bumming around a foreign country, especially a place like Guam where plenty of people speak english.

Okay, so...it feels weird not to travel with a "just-in-case" sweatshirt, but honestly I'm worried a lot about the weight of the suitcases. I wanna see if I can do it in 2 suitcases under 50lbs each to avoid fees.

Do you think I reallly need to pack one?

Huh that's weird, I can't imagine why else they'd charge you a diff rate... did they mention why you weren't getting their advertised $1.35 rate?

Anyway, a SIM card is a little plastic chip about the size of a postage stamp. They're inside all GSM phones, usually behind the battery. Your service is tied to your SIM, not the GSM cellphone. Prepaid SIM cards that you could pop in are available from walmart to ebay, but that will change your telephone number, and I'm not sure if it'd give you a cheaper rate either.
