I like them. I have one at my gym. On cold mornings, if no one else is using it, I like to go in (fully clothed) and to some warm up stretches..only about 5 min. To really get full use of it..make sure you're well hydrated, have a towel to sit on or cover up with (you should be naked), sit depending on how hot you want to be.(further in and up is hottest) relax, and enjoy a good sweat (I'd say 20 min.) Remember to drink water before and after!

I was always told they'll turn your skin to leather quicker than tanning.![]()

If that were the case, I think we'd be screwed just for living here!As long as you drink water, and moisturize...the heat of the sauna doesn't burn your skin, just gets your body temp up so you can get a good sweat.

Hahaha... I do pushups in them so I can feel a sweat quicker.
Though I heard they rarely help anything anyway.

My gym has one, and a steam room too....I love them. I use them both 2-3 times a week and I always feel so skinny afterwards. Sitting in the sauna after a long workout and drinking a liter of water makes for a flat tummy at work that night.![]()
Honestly, I don't like the Sauna. I prefer the steam room. In the Sauna, make sure you take a soaking wet towel to put over your heat if you need it (it's very, very dry in there and can be hard to breathe, sometimes).
Not sure what good the sauna does (but dehydrate you) but I love the steam room. The moment I got out of there, I scrubbed my face and it just got it so much cleaner (at least to me).

I myself love both the sauna & steam. I usually only did about 10 min. or so. Although, it's been quite awhile for both. One thing, absolutely do not wear any jewelery in there, it will feel like molten metal on your skin.

I'm a big sauna person just because it's relaxing. I spend just under 15 minutes using the higher end of medium temperature (7 on a 1-10 scale) in there. I drink water before, during, and after.

OOh that sounds so good! Now, did you drink a liter of water. before, during and afterward.
Do you think it is best to do that before a workout? How much water do you drink during the process.
Do you have a drink that helps provides electolytes? That you drink after using the sauna?

sauna is great for detoxing, sweating out all of the toxins. plus, it burns calories. a lot of them, surpisingly. in 20 minutes you can burn up to 300 calories, according to some websites.
Also, if you want to look thinner for a big event, you can sweat off up to 1 lb during a 20 minute sauna. Of course that is water weight and not real weight loss, but it can be helpful for a temporary fix.
However, it's not recommended you sit in a sauna for longer than 15-20 mintues ( although I don't know how anyone can stand it even thatlong. I can only stay for 10. I do 10 in, 10 out then 10 in)

You do realize that you're sweating off water weight and 'toxins' is a blanket term that dodgy naturopaths use to get you to buy kinoki foot pads, right? I mean, WHAT toxins? Which ones? Where? What kinds?

In Alaska we have sauna parties. Everyone goes over to someone's house that has a sauna and eats good food and then sits around in the sauna talking about politics and running outside to jump in the snow. I think it's a tradition that started in Norway. Anyways, they say that a sauna will get you cleaner than a bath in water.
