Default What is going on with my bladder? (tmi?)

I've searched on Google, maybe I'm using wrong terminnology, but I'm hoping someone here has also experienced this and can give me some input.

For the past 24 hours, I've noticed that after I urinate, my bladder still feels full, at least partially. It doesn't hurt, and it's not really unfortable or anything, but it still feels full.

For example, when your bladder is really full and you've had no access to a bathroom and you really need to go, but you've had no choice but to wait like an extra 30 minutes before you can urinate.....you know that feeling you get in your bladder, as you're going? Like a stinging or overly sensitive achey feeling?? (in your bladder, NOT stinging in your urethra like you have PID)

Well, I've been noticing that feeling as I'm done urinating. And afterwards, I'll still feel like I have to go again, but I've tried, and nothing is there.

It doesn't hurt, it's just weird. I hope nothing is wrong, and I don't want to call my dr freaking out just yet, if it's something silly.

    Ideas?

Sorry if this was TMI. (I know I've seen much worse on here though!)

Sounds like urinary urgency. Could be an early UTI. You can buy test sticks over the counter at the drugstore that will tell you if you have one.

Sounds like UTI to me. Get thee to a doctor and get a script for some Cipro. It will clear things up in a couple of days... just make sure to take all of your pills even if you feel better.

You don't want this to get worse.... you should see a Doc ASAP.

Not necessarily a UTI....I have these symptoms all the damn time and test negative for a UTI and was given antibiotics anyways.

Interstitial Cystitis was mentioned to me.

This is going to sound weird, but might as well throw it out there. I've had urinary infections before, but one year I had the feeling of one without the pain. It got so bad that I would fall asleep as fast as I could at night because otherwise within five minutes I'd be up feeling like I need to pee. This went on for months.
For me, what turned out to be the problem was this...it's sort of funny. My boyfriend at the time had insisted we rent anime porn. So while he was at work I was manually masturbating ALOT Turns out that clitoral orgasms seriously mess with my bladder. I've since bought a vibrator and I will still have bladder urgency if I masturbate manually.
It's embarassing telling this story, but if it helps someone I'm all for it.

This happens to me every once in awhile. It usually goes away after a day. I think it may be associated with sex, at least for me. It only happens after some hard core fucking.

I wouldn't necessarily jump to taking antibiotics, which (while necessary if you do end up with an infection) will probably give you a yeast infection. I'd wait a few more days if I were you. Drink lots of water and get some cranberry pills - these can often flush out anything bad before you get to the point of infection. If you're not in pain, your body isn't trying to tell you that anything's really wrong.
You might want to ask yourself if you've recently made any changes to the soap you're using, the detergent you wash your clothes in, or even if you've been depriving yourself of enough liquids.

Go to the drugstore and get some AZO in case it is a UTI. If it doesnt feel better within 24 hours call a Dr and make an appt.

Hmm... I am not a doctor but isn't waiting 24 hours excessive?

I had a UTI go from first tingle to pissing blood in about 6 hours. I was so deliriously in pain that I had to be taken to the ER.

The OP isn't here on SW, so I'm hoping she's getting some medical attention.

Well..after 24 hours of taking the OTC stuff I usually feel much better. And if shes catching it early she should be ok. IF its a UTI. I"ve had a few pretty bad ones, but never pissed blood.

Seeing a DR ASAP is the best thing...but if she cant..there are alternatives here so she can at least take steps to get better

OK, I haven't gone to the dr yet....it'll have to wait til Saturday unfortunately. I having no pain, it's just that uncomfortable full-bladder feeling, but as I'm finishing urinating. There's also no blood or anything like that. And I'm noticing that I feel the urge to pee right after I'm done peeing. But when I try, I don't actually have to go.

I was just at whole foods, and I saw cranberry pills, but I didn't grab them. Damn. Not sure if I can make it back there today, they may have it in the organic/natural care section of my other grocery store. Think I'll try to stop there in a minute.

Thank you all for your help, I love all the different ideas.

And, I've never been pregnant before.....could this be some kind of pregnancy thing? God I hope not. The thought popped in my head a while ago. No one has even said it yet as a possibility, but did any of you get this this in the first few months of pregnancy? One of my friends said she felt like she had to pee a lot, but we never discussed it in detail, like if there was discomfort involed in that respect.

If the muscles anchoring your bladder become weak it can give that type of sensation. Just throwing it out there...

cranberry pills from GNC or whole foods is good.

also limit your sugar for a little while.

you could also make some fresh lemonade (from real lemons) to help flush out your system.

Fuck Azo. Go with Cystex and a ton of cranberry pills. Cystex doesn't make you nauseous or stain your urine. You can find it at Walgreens. All the same, don't tough out a bladder infection. Those things can cause permanent and systemic damage. In a pinch, the Wal-mart clinics, CVS Minute clinics, and Planned Parenthood can do a culture and give you a prescription.

I can sympathize. I had that gotta-pee-but-can't feeling while I was in labour, then still couldn't pee right for days after because I ended up having a catheter. It's frustrating, I know.

Keep in mind, Cystex won't cure a UTI. It has a mild antimicrobial property and it will alleviate the symptoms. However, if you want to be UTI-free for sure, see a doctor.

it could also be a urethral stricture. i have one (have for 8 years) i no longer have to have treatments (which include stretching and are NOT fun) but it still bothers me from time to time.

and i want to add that, even though it's in your URETHRA a stricture can send that tingly feeling to your bladder, thusly making it feel like you have to pee. mine is always worse at night.

although strictures can be caused by serious underlying conditions, they can also "just happen"

my doctor told me i probably got mine from repeated sex in "non missionary" positions. no kidding.

and i've never had any pain or poor urine stream with it (which can happen).

there's a bunch of reasons you could "feel like you have to pee" from super tame stuff to really scary stuff.

That's quite a rare situation you experienced!! I think pissing blood is a symptom of bladder infection, which is more serious than a UTI. We don't know if this is what the OP is experiencing, although an urgency in urination is a symptom. But like Penny says it could be something else.

I don't think that maybe she should wait for any specific period of time, but until something feels worse, or different. But definitely get diagnosed ASAP. I'll stick with that answer.

UTI stands for urinary tract infection which is really generic for any infection from the urethra up to the kidneys. It encompasses everything from urethritis and bladder infections to pyelonephritis. Urinating blood is typical of hemorrhagic cystitis...a severe bladder infection that causes the lining of the bladder to bleed. You can also see something similar in pyelonephritis, where the infection has spread to the kidneys. Typically, with pyelo, you will also have mid back pain, vomiting, and fevers as well.

Hope the OP is doing well. Updates?

Well.... this is another thing I wanna throw out there.

Ever since my scary UTI experience I have been very fearful of the damn things. I do know that sometimes, my mind might play a trick on me and I think something is going on down there...

I read that you should really try and empty your bladder each time you pee.

Sometimes when you try and push out every last drop it could cause a dull hurty feeling. This has happened to me and it wasn't a UTI... just had the preliminary symptoms of one.

Things down there are delicate. If you are prone to UTI's it's good to keep a Cranberry CONCENTRATE (not cocktail) around, maybe take Cranberry pills regularly.

However, even then, if things seem funky... see a doc ASAP... UTI's can evolve into Kidney infections and those are terrible. Knock on wood, I haven't had one.

Everyone is different... some gals can tough out a UTI. I think I'm way more sensitive to them. Plus I have no problem popping antibiotics. Others may opt for a more natural treatment.

Do what is best for you... just take care of yourself.

Yeah.... it felt serious! No fun.... plus when it happened, I was in a strange town, on vacation, with my Boyfriend. My first symptom started at around Midnight. I tried to flush it out, drink lots of fluids. Ugh.... by dawn I was shivering, freaking out, and pissing blood. From now on, if I can't reach my Doc I go straight to the ER. Better safe than sorry.

That's what I was saying. Use the Cystex and cranberry for relief and/or prevention, but be sure to go to the doc becuase UTIs and bladder infections can turn into something really nasty and cause permanent damage.
