    Thumbs down Exchanges

So, I bought a couple of tank tops from James Peerse about a month and a half ago. I didn't try them on since I was already familar with the size and style. However, when I tried one on at home, I realized that the white was practically transparent! I tried to exchange them (unworn, tags attached, in original paper and bag, with the recipt) for another color and the guy said that they couldn't be exchanged because I had waited more than 14 days! The recipt said that I had to make a RETURN within 10 days or else I had to do an exchange or store credit. It said nothing about exchanges not being accepted after 14 days and the guy (same guy who wouldn't accept the exchange, coincidentally) didn't tell me when I made the purchase. I don't exactly live close to this store, so it barely seems worth it even if I make a phone call, bitch at someone, and then have to drive back over there (Fashion Valley) and deal with an exchange.

I had a massage this morning and wasn't about to get all worked up and stressed out but I'm wondering how this is fair? This is the first time that a store didn't print their limit for exchanges on the recipt (since they had one).

It's pretty deceiving if there was a time limit on store credits and exchanges that was not listed on the receipt. Maybe you could call and see if you could reach someone more helpful. Or sell it on Ebay?

You should go back and speak to a manager and report the guy by name. That is bullshit. If their printed return policy is limited to 10 days, otherwise exchange or store credit, they HAVE TO give you the exchange or credit.

Is this an illegal type of thing or just bad business? I just can't fathom how a store (that seems upscale enough) can have such an incredibly short amount of time for exchanges and not let their customers know about it... on a regular basis (I'm assuming it's regular since the info on the recipt seems so misleading). Maybe that's why the store is always so empty, ha!

Well I'm no expert but I think that legally they have to abide by the info printed on the receipt. That the printed info basically constitutes a contract and they can't change the terms after the fact. If they didn't include a limitation on exchanges or store credit in the return policy, I think that basically means they have to give you the exchange or store credit.

Like, you can't say that returns made after 10 days must only be done as exchange or store credit, and then disallow the exchange or store credit because of a time-limit that wasn't defined at time of sale. Of course there could be some weird CA law limiting all returns to 14 days. I dunno.

On second thought I would call their corporate office and explain the situation. I'm sure they have a customer service department you can call. They should tell you what to do, and might throw in some free merch or coupons or something for your trouble
