Default Finally get to see The L Word

I've never been able to watch The L Word because I don't have Showtime. So I just got a special deal with Showtime free for six months and I finally watched it. Wow, it's really good. And the sex is hotter than I expected and more prevalent.

The only thing is, it seems to give the impression that all lesbians do is hop from bed to bed, which in my experience, is not true. I kind of resent the stereotype, though I do like all the sex scenes.

Anyone else feel the same way about this series? I'm particularly wondering about the feelings of those who are actually lesbian.

    The L Word:
Sexy Blonde at She Bar: We have so many other delicacies to offer.
    Shane: Really. ... Like what?
Blonde (suggestive smile): Tongue ... pie ... muffins ... ladyfingers ... I could go on.
Shane: Well then, maybe you should think about giving out samples, so everyone gets a taste.
    Blonde: Yeah.

Yay. There's an episode called 'Labyrinth' (second season) that has me dressed as a man in a gstring running around all over the place

I believe every character inculding the str8 ones on Lword have a few partners for each season much the way any drama (from 90210 to Queer as Folk or All My Children) does.

As a lesbian I think Lword does a better job of showing Lesbian sex oppossed to all the majority of lesbian movies/Tv scenes that basicailly cover it up at together showing nothing more then a kiss that goes into a love making scene that is always overly artistic to the point it makes it look like Lesbians never fuck soo if L Word over does it alittle well it kinda helps even up the score in my book--plus that's 1/2 the reason we all watch anyways other then for Carmen*

I know alot of Lesbian who don't have much sex and probably wouldn't say the show repressent them at all. The show gets alot of heat in the community because every1 on the show is mainly young, sucessful, thin, and on the more feminine you can't tell they are a lesbian side--but I think it's great to show those type of lesbians can exist as I'm sure from the girls in L.A. I have dated they do. I also think a show about a bunch of fat sexless mullet wearing bulldykes that fit those other stereotypes would not make for good tv or a positive statement about the lesbian community as a whole.

I don't know if you are a lesbian or not, but I do know that if so you know there are 100 worst stereotypes that goes with being a lesbian then us having 2 much sex and given that it's a made for TV show for it not to have as much sex as any other drama would be truely unfairly baised in my book.

I personally do have/have had alot of sex, lovers..ect I'm not a cheat or a player by any means, but my point is Shane's sex/love life is reflective of a sex drive alot of lesbians do have the same way QAF had it's Brain Kenney and AMC has Erika Kane.

Anyhow hope you enjoy the series. You can buy seasons 1-4 at bestbuy like I did(or online I'm sure), but I'm totally looking forward 2 Lword parties over at my friends house again since not every1 gets showtime it's a good excuse for a gettie.

Scarlett, are you saying you actually appeared on the show? That's so cool! How did it happen? I'm going to have to rent Season 2.

Yeah, you're right - I wasn't thinking. I'm sure doctors don't have as much sex (or neuroses, hopefully) as they do on Grey's Anatomy either. I'm not a lesbian, but I'm definitely bi and so I'm still conscious of sterotypes. But as you said, there are a lot worse ones. The sex makes for good TV, and yes, it's one of the things I like about the show. They do take the girl sex farther than the typical mainstream shows do. In fact, I find myself more stimulated by the sex scenes on The L word they I do from the typical girl-girl porn stuff. It's more real and sensual.

Clearly, I have missed something as I have not seen Carmen. :-( I really think Jenny is very sexy-cute (I can tell that she is not terribly stable, but I'd still do her for sure). And Shane is hot-hot-hot, always looking for a new conquest - she could definitely take me. I also like Jenny's new assistant (name?) - really cute though I liked her better before her "makeover", with the glasses and the nerdy look.

Looking forward to more. They may have hooked me with their free Showtime.

BTW, I loved the come-on that the one blonde used on Shane at She-Bar - something about other delicacies that they had to offer? I may add it to my signature.

Ya, it's filmed here in Vancouver, and they hired out some strippers to play...strippers, lol. Through my agency. 3 girls on set for 3 days, we had our own trailer n stuff. The pay was good but it was the most boringly useless 3 days of my life (16 hours a day on set, I worked for like...1 hour a day). Working in TV/film= not my thing.

actually most of the girls have the same partner at least for that season lol. that is of course except for shane the resident player.

carmen hasnt been on the show for the past two seasons.

if you want to catch up,all seasons are for rent at blockbuster

the only untruths i see on that show are .one, that all lesbians are rich trendsetters and two there isnt much representation of the real butch lesbian

Personally I am pretty bitter toward the show. I used to be acquainted with one of the writers (she was in an open relationship with a friend of mine and sleeping with another friend of mine) and they consistently ruined so many things that so many of us in the Los Angeles queer scene (when I lived there) remember and hold so dear. She knew better than that, but nooooo.

Like when they turned Club Milk into a fancy martini bar for the first season, when in fact the ever famous Club Milk was primarily the hangout of hardcore diesel dykes and thrash kids who shot back straight whiskey and occasionally moshed to heavy metal. Damn near broke my little queer heart.

Not to mention their always frustrating portrayal of trans and genderqueer people. Oh look, this man here wants to be a woman and when the girl who dates this person makes him use his biological parts (which he probably loathes) he runs away crying and is never seen again. Poor little weirdo. Oh! And the female-to-male character? Perfect and sweet before hormones but once he started testosterone it was cheatin-asshole city, a pretty common stereotype lobbed at people of that particular nature.

But yeah... it is in fact a pretty accurate portrayal of at least one dominant cross-section of the Los Angeles lesbian scene. Which is another big part of why and how it frustrates me. Though I admit, when it was still a good reason to go out to the local dyke bar cause it would actually be -full- due to everyone piling in to watch? I sure did watch every single episode then.

But now? Now it just annoys me.

I also think a show about a bunch of fat sexless mullet wearing bulldykes that fit those other stereotypes would not make for good tv or a positive statement about the lesbian community as a whole.
What? On behalf of some of the coolest people I have ever known... Gee, thanks.

Ack... I am negative tonight... must stay away from internet...

It can be difficult to make a recently single man pay for sex when he knows that a quick trip to the local watering hole would secure at least one hard drunken tumble for far less cash. It is even more difficult when he is something of a dead ringer for James Bond as played by Daniel Craig and possesses the sort of awkard charm and confidence that brands a man like him as a lady killer.
