I'm not exactly sure of the nutritional content of balance bars but I think 4 a day is excessive. I'm all for easy preparation though. Any time I try a meal bar it has every thing it should have to replace a meal but I'm still never full. In fact, it doesn't sound like anything you ate was very filling. I'd be starving too.
I would first think about increasing fiber in your diet. It definately helps me feel full and I think it is crucial to weight loss as well. I snack on triscuts or take fiber supplements.
The soy lattes probably aren't that bad for you. I need my coffee/tea or I'm a cranky pants. A small soy latte at Starbucks I know has 76 calories, 4g fat, 5g carb, 6g protein. Thats actually not bad and has some protein. I might pair it with a bit of fruit and a few triscuts to keep me full.
I totally think the balance bars are the problem. I'd never be full and they pack a bunch of calories/carbs in addition to their protein etc. If you are on the go all of the time I might think about bringing veggies in a tiny tupperware with me and just graze throughout the day.
I also really like EAS's low carb protein shakes (walmart). They taste like watered down chocolate milk but when I really can't find any other way to make sure I'm getting enough protein on the go they are pretty low carb/high protein. If I was at all near a grocery store I'd just run in and get the prepackaged veggies and a naked juice. Having a handful of trail mix (nuts, raisins and a few choc. chips) does wonders for shutting up my noisy tummy. Its inexpensive and convenient to carry and probably a lot better for you than protein bars with lots of extra chemicals.
Never let anyone tell you to cut out the chocolate though![]()

They sell gluten-free crackers and breads.
Another poster here turned me on to this really awesome snack: spinach and cheese. You take a small piece of cheese, wrap it up in a handful of raw baby spinach, and chow down. It's delicious and highly portable.
I think you should eat actual meals though. It sounds like you're just a perpetual snacker, which means you're always hungry and hence likely to overeat. Start making real meals with lots of filling fiber (like brown rice and gluten-free pasta), balanced out with protein and lots of veggies, seasoned with spices, juices, small amounts of flavorful oils (extra-virgin olive and sesame, for example). In between, snack on fresh fruit instead of protein bars, and cut back to one small piece of chocolate a day or less.
Take Yek's advice and eat at least 2 solid meals. Most people who want to lose weight start crash diets where all they do is wind up snacking on things that are meant to supplement regular diets and skipping real meals, which is starvation basically. Eat normal meals consisting of healthier foods, just cut back the serving size of each. Most people don't understand that if you simply cut back how MUCH of each thing you eat, you'll drop weight. I did that and lost 100lbs. It works.
