Ok, I just can't afford to get my hair highlighted now . It's been over a year & 1/2 since I did this. It does last awhile on my hair, since it's so long, but now it's way grown out & dull looking. I do base color touch ups at home w/Revlon color. I went on a site called salonapprentice.com, they use 'hair models'. You don't get paid but you get services w/a colorist in training, (they already have beautician license & it's usually an advanced color class)for greatly reduced prices. I only have day hours I can go, & it's usually held in the evening.
Anyway, I got a L'Oreal Hi-Light Styliste kit on clearance at Target, it has brush-on highlights. I got H80 Golden Honey Color. My base color (except for the grown out hightlights) is like a light brown. I called their 800 # & they said it's ok to use on colored hair, just do a test first & leave it on no more than 30 min. (checking after 15 min.)
Has anyone ever used it, w/color hair? I know I won't have bright blond highlights like at the salon. Thanks.

I haven't tried that specific product, but I've used Loreal Colour Expert before and I loved it. The highlights look perfect with the color (it's color + highlights) and b/c the highlights are only a couple shades lighter than the color, there is pretty much no possible way to mess up and it looks naturally pretty!

Overall, I've liked loreals various hair dye products. Just follow the directions and I'm sure you'll be fine.

And to answer your actual question about using with colored hair, their other products have been fine, and as long as I wasn't doing anything too different, you couldn't see much difference between where it's on my natural hair and my colored hair.

I've always used it on colored hair, and it was no problem.

Well, thanks, ladies. I talked to my friend she's a beautician (in another state, unfortunately) she said, that b/c my hair's darker now, it might not be enough to actually lighten it the color I want/need. I went back on salon apprentice, & the one place that was close & w/hours I could deal with, they want to massively chop my hair. So that ain't happenin'. I guess I'll just have to bang it on one of my CC's. I really want my hair done, like I said it's been 2 years already.
    Thanks again.

I don't recommend that at all. I'd go to a beauty school and pay less to get it done before using an at home kit.

    Yep, thanks.
I found a place in Chicago, it was listed in Allure. When I spoke to this guy on the phone he seemed to 'get' me, & asked a lot of ?'s as to what I'd be looking for which I liked. I tried a different place very nearby, & they totally screwed my around about an appt.
I booked a consult in a week for the Chicago place. They left time open, so if I want to have it done @ that time, I can

I use Revlon high lights and low lights all the time and love them. SUPER easy to use and the low lights even comes with a toner.I havent had any problem with them. Loreal used to fry my hair(plus loreal isnt cruelty free which bothers me). I use it on colored hair, the low lights when my color comes out too light or brassy, the highlights when my hair comes out too dark.

Oh, wow, thanks, Cammie! I didn't know that L'oreal wasn't cruelty free. I do use the Revlon regular color to touch up my roots.

Loreal is one of the WORST companies when it comes to animal testing. I try never to buy anything by them. And Revlon is better anyway IMO!!
