    Default all or nothing??

so am in a dilemma. at the mo, i am working 2 nights a week stripping on top of my normal 9-5 job which im starting to hate coz my boss is a ...well, he's not a nice person. was thinking about working full time at the club, but im just a bit worried as i have loads of debts and, as a newbie to it all, i reckon im having a stroke of beginners luck as they say which won't always last.

    any thoughts??

I'm about to be in the same boat so I'm interested in seeing some responses as well.

It's a tough call really. On the one hand you have the stability of a guaranteed paycheck every week or two weeks with the 9-5...that kind of security doesn't necessarily come with dancing full time. On top of which you will lose any kind of benefits you may have at the day job...health insurance being the one that springs to the front of my mind.

All that being said, dancing full time does have the potential to make you a lot more money than you can at your day job (well, depending on what you do I guess). The thing of it is that you have to be diligent about keeping track of ALL your cash. It can be a great way to pay down debt fast, but only if you actually apply the money you are making to paying off that debt.

You just need to ask yourself whether or not you have the self discipline that it takes to dance full time, and approach it like any other job. That means going in regularly, getting in on time, staying focused on making money, not getting caught up in the many, many different kinds of club drama, saving your money, and maintaining your focus in what can be a very distracting environment.

I hope you can figure it out though...make a pro/con list...think it over for a couple of weeks while you still find your groove in the club. Who knows...you may find out after several weeks that you hate dancing, and you'll be glad to still have a source of income if that happens. On the other hand you may find out that you really have what it takes and decide to go for it, but that other income while you were deciding probably won't suck.

I worked full time and danced part time. Everyone said I was crazy for keeping my full time job they all wanted me to dance full time because I could make more money in a shorter amount of time. I thought about it, but for me I love my full time job, I went to school for 5 years to get this job, and I love having the health ins. also its nice knowing I will always have a pay check for the same amount each month.

So for me I would never quite my full time job, unless I hated it or the money sucked.

Now that I am pregnant I am not dancing right now but I am still working the full time job so I always have money coming in. If I had been a full time dancer I would be hurting right now not being able to dance.

As someone who works fulltime at a club with no other job......yeah I'd say you'd make more money for sure, but if you are on some sort of career path, don't quit your day job. It is SO HARD to go back to a "normal" job after doing this full-time. Could you pick up a couple extra shifts a week til your debt is paid off?

I quit my day job over a year ago, promised myself I'd get another job in a few months after my debt was paid off. Well here I am, no day job and no direction. I make great money, maybe even 4-5 times more than I would at a day job (as someone who is uneducated)....but I am paranoid. I depend on dancing way too much and its not good.

Not that there's anything wrong with dancing, but there's so many things that can go wrong (like break your leg or something). Also dancing doesn't last forever, so its important to have something to fall back on. A years-long gap in employment won't look good on job resumes. Its good to have a day job to back yourself up.

That's exactly what I'm going thru now, I have no idea what I want to do when I retire from dancing. I need to get off my ass and start trying to figure this out.

I quit stripping for a while and did a 9-5, but when I figured out that I was happier dancing and I made more money I started dancing part time again. 3 months after that I went back to dancing full time. Don't get me wrong, I loved my regular job, and I'm glad that I got the education to do it, but I make more money and have more fun stripping. I'll go back to my 9-5 once I'm done dancing, but that's a looooooong way away, at least 5-7 years.

Keep the day job. Or get another day job that you enjoy. Having that balance is important to staying sane in today's tough economy and guys demanding more and more extras.

Keep your day job, trust me, it'll put your mind at ease knowing that you'll have a guaranteed income no matter what because in this business you never know how much you're going to make. You can be hot for a while and be making loads of money and then be on a cold streak. Plus I think having another job helps prevent stripper burnout and helps to prevent from stripping "fucking with your head" if you know what I mean. My "real" job that I went to college for was dental hygiene and for a while all I did was dance. And after a while it got hard when people would ask me what I did for a living I had to remind myself to tell them "I'm a dental hygienist". And it's not that I'm ashamed to be a dancer but I just can't tell everyone, ya know? So, now what I do is do dental hygiene 1-2 days a week, I work as a temp and then dance the rest when I'm not at the dental office. Having another job with guaranteed income will truly make your life easier I think.

If it was me, I wouldn't quit my day job. Personally I literally double my dancing income when I have another stable part-time job "on the side". The non-dancing paycheck job usually doesn't pay well, but my mindset does a 180 in the club because of it. Just knowing that I have my basic bills and rent covered by something else gives me a whole different (money-making) attitude when I go to the club. I don't feel desperate, I don't feel like I have to put up with tons of bullshit and heavy contact to make money, I don't feel pressured b/c I know no matter what, my basics are covered without dancing. And that confidence and relaxed attitude allow me to make dancing a fun, lucrative game instead of a pressure-filled "omg I'm having a slow night; what if I can't pay this bill on time?" pot of misery.

But then, that's what works for me, and you might be different.

i'm with ginger lee, i did the 9-5, but dancing suits me better, and i still have my college degree as back up. i go to interviews every once in a while just to remind mself that i'm hireable, and i lie like a rug on my resume
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

I think you should at least get a part time job and dance in addition to that. With the bills you have to pay, if your club goes through a dry spell, you may be stressed out worrying how you will take care of your obligations. It is not fun as you can imagine I am in that boat right now.

You can be Hustler of the Year, but if there isn't any customers willing to spend or in the club at all- that won't get you anywhere. I don't know what city you are in so that may or may not be a factor.

I also began dancing just to pay off a few bills, get a car and perhaps a boob job. I have accomplished pretty much none of that because it would have been smarter for me to do the 2 job thing. You may not have my procrastination illness anyway so that's a plus.

Leogirl- how do you like your hygienist career? Do you find the market saturated? I wanted to go into nursing, but now I am having doubts.
